New imports to hit North America in early '08

Samurai Warriors: Katana for Wii hits in January, followed by PSP and DS updates to Dungeon Explorer in February.

New entries in a pair of Japanese gaming franchises are headed for domestic shores. Koei's Samurai Warriors: Katana for the Wii and Hudson's Dungeon Explorer: Warriors of Ancient Arts for the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable were confirmed today for North American releases early next year.

Katana is now set to arrive in stores on January 15, 2008, a full year after Koei originally confirmed that the game would see a domestic release. The arcade-style action game has players using the Wii Remote as a stand-in for a variety of weapons, including a sword, a spear, a warhammer, a gun, a cannon, and a bow and arrow.

Wii gamers may recognize the Dungeon Explorer franchise from the original TurboGrafx-16 game's release on the Virtual Console downloadable-game service. Hudson today announced that portable gamers will be able to get their hands on the handheld follow-ups in February. Although both editions of the game share a subtitle, they will feature separate gameplay elements and tell different stories, with the DS tale set hundreds of years after its PSP counterpart.

    I'm not personally interested in either of those games, but I think more and more stuff should be ported over from japan! They have some awesome games over there, that I'm very sad I have to play in Japanese, if I get to play them at all!

    Good to hear that the DS and PSP versions are actually different games (at least different stories), which gives reason to pick up both copies.

    I purchased this game Dungeon Explorer on the Wii and well having never played it before...well it sucked...Sorry I was disappointed by it. It wasn't the graphics or the sound it was the game machanics.

    DW: Katana never was a PS2 title. It's kind of a light gun shooter but with a close range weapons. Dont be a dummy.

    Hahaha, a Dynasty Warriors game on the Wii!!! Let me guess "it'll take advantage of the motion sensative innovation". Okay, if any other Wii game was worthy of Carpal Tunnel Candidate of the Year, it'd be Dynasty Warriors for the Wii.

    Anyhow, this Wii getting older PS2 titles is getting a little old.

    I played the Dungeon Explorer demo on the PSP and it was pretty cool but it did get very repetitive.

    I'm interested to see how the Samurai Warriors game turns out. I liked the first game but I never did get to play the second.
