Shippin' Out August 6-10: Boogie, Mega Man Star Force

The calm before the storm arrives as Electronic Arts releases its Wii dancing game; retailers brace for next week's Madden launch.

While the holiday quarter technically begins in October, the ramp-up of releases each year can usually be traced back to August and the annual launch of Electronic Arts' latest Madden game. With the latest installment in the pigskin franchise hitting the retail field August 14, this week's light release slate will be the last until the end of the year.

There is one significant title being released this week, however, and that's EA's Wii rhythm game Boogie. EA execs have said the company stumbled by initially focusing development efforts on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 instead of the Wii, but they didn't wait long to devote more resources and original games to Nintendo's system. After SSX Blur, Boogie is the company's second Wii-exclusive title, and it's set to ship out on Tuesday.

The rest of the week is sparsely populated with retail releases, as Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars make their way to the PlayStation Portable, and Mega Man Star Force is released on the DS in three different versions (one of them exclusive to GameStop).

On the downloadable front, Wave Race 64 leads a Wii Virtual Console lineup that includes Nintendo Entertainment System puzzler The Adventures of Lolo and TurboGrafx-16 shooter Galaga '90. Track & Field is the only Xbox Live Arcade release this week, but its button-mashing gameplay could inflict the controller wear-and-tear of any three normal games.

This week's new releases are listed below (list taken from retailer information--actual dates may vary).

AUGUST 6, 2007
Wave Race 64 (Wii Virtual Console)
Adventures of Lolo (Wii Virtual Console)

Okay, ever since Seeds was created I said that Capcom was going back to doing Mega Man games. I'm sorry, I loved the franchise like over ten years ago, but this is getting ridiculous. Dragon, Leo, and Pegasus? Are they trying to be another kiddy franchise like Pokemon? Capcom doesn't care about gaming anymore, now their trying to get a few gimmicky bucks. Boo you Capcom, that's probably while Clover Studios up a left your ass.

I don't understand the hubbub over "Boogie". It doesn't look particularly innovative, and the song selection is flat-out terrible.

Oh man, two weeks until "BioShock". Hallelujah!

nothing this week. Next week the storm begins with the Madden releases, with at least a game expected to be purchased every week until the end of November.

Thank goodness no systems are coming out this year for the sake of my wallet

    "Exclusive to GameStop"?
Wow... there are still other game stores besides GameStop? Not in my area! They've bought out then crapped out all the local competition.
