Brain Age reaches sales milestone

Cerebral treadmill sells more than 4 million worldwide, more than 3 million in Japan; Europe's Brain Age sales off to a fast start since June release.

To get an idea of how successful Nintendo's Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day has become, one need only look at the recent sales charts from the US, UK, and Japan. The game has been on the market for months but still lies firmly planted in the top 10, largely surrounded by new releases.

While positions on charts are a fair barometer of a game's success, good old-fashioned sales figures generally leave any doubts behind. Today, Nintendo released the latest global sales numbers of the game, and they reveal that millions of gamers enjoy brainteasers.

Worldwide, the game has sold more than 4 million copies, with Japan leading the way at more than 3 million units. In the US, the game has sold more than 600,000 copies since its release in April and was the second-best-selling game that week, according to the sales charts from Best Buy.

But the most impressive figure comes from across the Atlantic, where more than 500,000 gamers have picked up a copy of Brain Age. The game was released in Europe in June, and it reached the half-million mark in just nine weeks, outpacing even Japan, which took 16 weeks to break 500,000.

Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day is rated E for Everyone and retails for $19.99. For more information, read GameSpot's full review.

Congratulations Nintendo, and by the way, this is not a game, it's a software...

    Crovax20...

Yeah I did read it. I actually am glad its a success. It just annoys me to hear gameX is a HUGE international success with X million sold only to find out 90% of those sales are in Japan.

I'm actually VERY happy nintendo is so succesful now cause maybe that means we'll get some good & innovative japanease games for the first time in a decade without having to import or track down really bizzare & rare stuff.

I like it, but don't play it a ton. Brain Age is a fun diversion from other games, but nothing on which I spend a ton of time. I'm glad I picked it up, but I would not have done so for $30+.

I guess we should have all expected the PS Fanboys would be negative about the news. They must be jealous because the PSP sure is not setting any sales milestones.

    Brain Age is awesome!

    Go, Nintendo!

    Illumination77,

Did you read the article properly, it stated that in Europe it sold over half a million in 9 weeks, while it took japan 16 weeks to reach that mark. Don't you think the game will continue to sell strong in Europe? I know for one that I walk in my local gamestore it still tops the sales list. And the ads they are running are *gasp* good! One of the few times Nintendo done its marketing right.

The way it is selling in this timewindow just goes to show its a popular game. You would be right if it was out for a 5 months and japan accounts for 80% of the sales, but right now its to early to call

It is actually a very fun game, and for 20 bucks you can't beat it in it's category.

Its a cool little gimmick for your DS to be committed to daily! The achievements you get for being committed are nice. I really like all the sudoku puzzles as well. This is more or less a title for a little more mature crowd. Not saying youngsters wont like it but I remember when I was young I hated anything to do with making your brain smarter and or school stuff! Times change and this has been an exciting title to own

That 4 million is awsome but its ALOT less impressive when you find out it's mostly all in Japan, thats like saying Dragon Quest is the 2nd most popular rpg series in the world cause its world wide sales are 35 million. The fact that all 35 million are in Japan alone doenst matter right?

I have only played My brothers copy (we never buy two copies of the same game). And I must say this game seems fun. I'm glad to see that it sold well.

My brain age is 55 by the way. WHOO!
