Juiced revs up again

THQ's street-racing series set to return this fall on six platforms with Hot Import Nights.

THQ first uttered confirmation of a sequel to its street racer Juiced in a conference call with investors last November, but it didn't divulge any details for its fast and no doubt furious follow-up. Today the publisher gave gamers a peek under the hood at its plans for the game, announcing that it would release Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and PC this fall.

Taking its name from the touring custom-car show of the same name, Hot Import Nights adds a new drifting component to the series and expands on the original's number of tracks and customization options. The game also introduces a Driver DNA feature, which tracks players' habits and driving traits in profiles that can then be shared online.

In 2004, THQ won the publishing rights for the original Juiced in a bidding war over rivals like Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, and Namco and went on to buy Juice Games, the game's developer, last March. For more on the original game, check out GameSpot's review.

I always find it interesting when a broad multiplatform release like this "skips" a particular console (in this case the Wii). It's especially notable when the release lands on the PS2, PSP, and DS (so it's not that the Wii doesn't have the power to run it). I wonder if perhaps the Wii version got a late start (due to skepticism over its viability) and will follow later...

There was so much hype for the first game. Judging from the screenshots and general buzz I expected a killer title like Need for Speed Underground series. What I got was a less than mediocre 'racing' game with a pathetic physics engine..............wait, there wasnt any physics at all on second thoughts, a car that handled as badly as the one on Midnight Club 2 (PC) and boring tracks. The only good thing is the graphics. The monotonous and unlreastic bumble bee engine sound was soooo irritating.....they HAVE to fix that for the sequel.
I'd consider getting the sequel as long as it has an entirely new game engine, decent sound fx and physics/handling, better tracks/environments. The best part of the original Juiced was the gorgeous chicks!!

I enjoyed the first one, it was massive and more realistic than NFS, hopefully this one will be better
