UK Game Charts: November 19-25

Gears of War knocked off the top slot in shock tackle by FIFA 07.

Epic Games' Gears of War may be the fastest-selling Xbox 360 game ever, and it may have ousted Halo 2 from the top slot on Xbox Live, but this week sees it knocked down the UK All-Formats game chart to number three--after only one week at the top. FIFA 07 is back in the top slot, with Need for Speed Carbon idling at number two.

The top 10 is dominated by Electronic Arts and THQ--both companies can boast three titles in the upper half of the charts. For EA, it's FIFA 07 at one, Need for Speed Carbon at two, and The Sims 2: Pets at four. THQ has WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW 2007 at six, Bratz: Forever Diamonds at nine, and Cars at 10.

The biggest climber of the week is Buzz: The Big Quiz, which moves up seven spaces to 28. The dubious honour of the biggest drop down the charts goes to Medieval II: Total War--it plummets 17 spaces to 32.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow has been released on DVD, boosting sales of the game, which went sailing back into the top 40 at 23.

The highest new entry this week is Activision's Guitar Hero II, which enters the chart at 16. Most of the other new releases last week didn't manage to break into the top 40, including Warhammer: Mark of Chaos, Cricket 07, and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: Party Edition.

Next week sees the release of even more new games, though no particularly strong contenders for the top slot. Heroes of Annihilated Empires, The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II, The Fifth Disciple, and The Rise of the Witch-King will be released for the PC; The Sims 2: Pets comes out for the PlayStation Portable; and a series of animal-themed titles arrive for the DS--Horsez, Catz, and Hamsterz Life.

    PS2 still killing it over here it seems.And im glad to see GOW of the top spot as its gotta be one of the most boring and over hyped games since Halo2.

    But still what the fook is Bratz and Cars doing in the top ten?? i know this country has little music taste but when it comes to games i thought it was on par, clearly i was wrong.

    I'm assuming this is a sales chart. Thus meaning these numbers including EVERYONE, even parents buying games as presents which is why Cars/Bratz is on the list.

    If they made a sales chart of males 18-25, I promise you Gears of War would be on top.

    They certainly love their soccer over there though.

    Ea must be buying their own games to keep themselves in the top ten. This is what happens in the music industry or used to happen (not sure if there's a top ten any more?) Iy was on the Cook Report some years ago when they went undercover with cameras and you could see them making deals to buy 10,000 singles so they could get the song in the top ten.

    I've always said for years that I think that's what EA are probably doing. Biying their own games because they think a game in the top ten will sell more copies than games in not in the top ten. They're right too, because I bet there's hundreds of thousands of casual gamers you think the best games are the ones in the top ten.

    Or are those just insane thoughts?

    It's not a surprise that the UK list has 6 PS2 games, there are only 10 people in the UK that are rich enough to get a gaming system and only 1 has a Xbox 360. That's why all the smart people came to America.

    hahahah. 6 ps2 titles a year after the 360's launch. That's kinda pathetic. Hopefully wii and ps3 fair better than their competition.

    macacd : ~ have you played Fifa this year ..... it's a real improvement ... almost as good as Pro Evo say 4 ( currently on Pro Evo 6 ) ... ALMOST .... it's not a half bad game this year ..... Fooball gets treated well .. unlike American Handball where EA just paid lots of money to kill the better games off rather than try to improve their shoddy product .. 2 years on and Madden still isn't as good as the NFL 2k series

    I think some people need to think a bit because nearly all 360 owners probably got Gears last week so the majority of sales this week have been to the few 360 owners that didnt get it last week and NEW 360 owners. Then think about the games it was going against established franchises that have big casual appeal like NFS and Fifa both being on ps2 which is the easily the dominant console here plus the fact 360 sales have not been that spectacular. If anything its an achievement to be that high up because i expected it to drop a few more places.

    with games such as Gears of war, Rainbow six: Las Vegas and Call of duty 3 the x360 should be dominating, sadly this is not the case

    Gears of war might seem soooo amazing to us, but everywhere else soccer is king. Just like Madden rules the chart when it comes out fifa or some other soccer game rules over there.
