Entering Cheats?

I have tried several times to enter the cheat codes to unlock all the characters but it doesn't work. I've tried using the plus pad for left, right, up and down and also the left and right shoulder buttons but nothing works? Please help. Can the cheats be entered at the title screen if you have already started playing it?

Eric-thanks for the response, but it doesn't work for me. I'm following the sequence at the title screen and I am entering the information quickly. I'm assuming the up and down refers to pushing the cross button up and down. Also, I've tried using both the left and right shoulder buttons and the left and right buttons of the cross for the sequence.

The cheats are entered in the main title screen. Make sure that you are entering the buttons correctly, and quickly. You should hear a sound that sounds like when you are building something in the game.
