Back in 44 BC, Julius Caesar was told to beware the Ides of March. However, in 2007 AD, the month got off to a promising start for gamers. PlayStation 3 fans, in particular, will be relieved that they can finally stop playing the MotorStorm drinking game while watching Sony keynote addresses--and start revving up the game itself. Yes, after nearly two years of continuous hype, Sony's first-party off-road racing game is finally hitting pay dirt at retail--check out GameSpot's review for a full rundown.

The new-PS3-game drought was further lessened this week by the release of two Electronic Arts games for the platform. NBA Street Homecourt and Def Jam: Icon both arrive on the console this week, a fortnight after the former's and simultaneously with the latter's Xbox 360 editions. However, the week's most anticipated 360 debut came from EA rival Ubisoft in the form of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2--that is if you don't count Worms on Xbox Live Arcade.

On Tuesday, another eagerly awaited EA title, Burnout Dominator, peeled out onto the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. The week's other big PS2 game is actually a port of a PSP game. After selling more than 317,000 copies on the handheld in the US (through January 2007), Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories is following Liberty City Stories onto Sony's still-popular elder console.

The DS, the current portable champion, got a healthy injection of new games this week, including Wario: Master of Disguise, Shrek Smash and Crash, and Rayman Raving Rabbids. Unfortunately, those were about the only new titles of import coming to a Nintendo platform, excluding the latest crop of Virtual Console titles on the Wii, which included Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, Sword of Vermilion, and Elevator Action.
