1.1 mil pieces of Lego SW II sold

LucasArts' multiplatform Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy rakes in impressive sales since early-Septemeber release.

Both Lego building blocks and Star Wars films are big hits with the kids, so it makes sense that a game featuring both would be a big hit as well. LucasArts today announced that Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, which lets gamers play through the Lego-built universes of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, has sold 1.1 million units worldwide since its release on September 12.

Almost no gamer was left out, as The Original Trilogy blankets just about every platform. The tongue-in-cheek title was released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, PlayStation Portable, DS, and Game Boy Advance.

The game is the sequel to the surprise 2005 hit Lego Star Wars, which greatly helped the financial fortunes of SCi Entertainment Plc, owner of the game's publisher, Eidos Interactive. After the original's success, LucasArts wisely opted to publish the game's sequel.

The success of Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy falls into LucasArts' approach to the industry--make fewer games, but make each one count. Earlier this year, LucasArts vice president of product development Peter Hirschmann told GameSpot, "LucasArts is always only going to publish a certain number of titles a year. We want each one of them to be a home run..."

    I have that game...I dont like it thjough for DS>..but on GameCube and PS2 its cool///=)

    Lots of good things being said about this game.Haven't seen it on my side of the world yet.guess if it does come over,i'll just need to give it a try

    This just shows LucasArts that they should show a lot more love to the original trilogy and leave those trainwreck prequels alone.

    I am happy to see this game selling well. I loved the first one and will love this one too when I et around to picking it up.
