Disgaea Bleach-es Dark Soul on DS

Nippon Ichi's original grid-based strategy RPG set to join new installment in VIZ Media's popular supernatural samurai slasher on Nintendo's portable this summer.

A little over a week ago, Nippon Ichi America revealed it would be landing a third wave of combustible penguins on North American shores later this year with Disgaea 3 on the PlayStation 3. While the latest Prinny onslaught will update the cult series with a 3D face-lift, NIA isn't quite ready to abandon the series' traditional 2D stylings.

Following on the coattails of the 2007 PlayStation Portable redux Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, NIA said today it would be bringing an updated version of the original Disgaea to the Nintendo DS this July. NIA promises that the DS version of the game will include "several key improvements" to the original grid-based tactical role-playing game, but did not go into explicit detail as to what these updates entail.

With the second season of Bleach premiering on Cartoon Network March 1, Sega confirmed today that it would be following up last year's well-received Bleach: The Blade of Fate for Nintendo's portable this summer with Bleach: Dark Souls. Sega notes that Dark Souls offers an exclusive storyline that takes place between the first and second seasons of the show, and the game will feature a variety of the anime's voice actors.

Japanese outfit Treasure will again be adapting VIZ Media's Bleach anime, and promises Dark Souls will offer a range of enhancements over Blade of Fate, including the ability to play as 44 different characters, 30 new spirit cards, and the addition of a variety of new Bankai special moves.

The game will also pack in seven additional gameplay modes, as well as support for four-player multiplayer bouts using the DS's Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and DS Download Play. Dark Souls will also include an encyclopedia to help players keep track of the complicated world of Bleach.

Yup, it had nothing to do with it, they had so little info on it that they had to mix up 2 previews in one.

    Welcome to the new Gamespot

NIS sure is squeezing Disgaea (the first one) dry, huh? The game worked freakin' great on the PSP and really looked good too. The funny thing is that since they added some new content to the PS2 game, it didn't quite fit on the UMD, so they had to tone a few things down (took some voices out for some parts, etc). The DS version is gonna be way worse in that respect. Unless they also tone down the graphics a lot to save more space.

So instead of putting a good remake of Disgaea 2 or Makai Kingdom on the PSP, they decided to make a port (however good or bad) of the same exact game that was on the PSP (with "improvements) on the DS? Wow........

Man after playing the second Bleach DS game in japanese, I sorta wished they would just skip the first one. Since it doesn't have anything in particular that isn't improved opon in the sequel. Still I got both "Blade of Fate" and "Bleach2nd" for some reason xD Now what I really would like is a third entry in the series with even more characters like Grimmjow and the lot. Also proper color hollow ichigo.

Shame that I already have the PSP version. My DS has been collecting dust ever since I finished Pokemon Diamond. Still at least DS owners can enjoy the game now (and it has the potential to pull in lots of new fans in the process) so it's still a win-win for everyone regardless.

Now if the voice actors for the Japanese setting would suck less than the PSP's versions (I want the original voice actors back!) I would be willing to buy this game again.

While this is good news (the more Disgaea the better) I really wish Nippon Ichi would create some original/new Disgaea games for mobile devices that really take advantage of the PSP and DS respectively.

I'll probably be getting Disgaea because I like tactical RPGs. Is Bleach: Dark Souls Bleach 2nd in Japan? I have that and it is a great fighting game.

    Hell. Freaking. Yes.

I am SO glad publishers are tossing out the idea of single platform development. Gamers rejoice!
