Driver offers a nice challenge to players looking for a driving game that doesn't deviate from the basic formula.

Driver on the Gameboy Color is a decent game that has a basic design that applies throughout the game. In each level you are given a short blurb about what is going on, for example: "This car is evidence in a crime." or "drive these bank robbers to the bank." Then you dive straight into the action. In each level there is a location to go to, a time limit and a damage meter. The goal of each mission is to get to the target location as fast as possible without crashing into to many things. In the later levels the police become a major factor in trying to hinder your routes. The control is perhaps the most important aspect of driving games and in the case of Driver they handle nicely. The visuals of this game are not anything that will blow your mind, nor is the sound design. What this game does have going for it, is the fun gameplay and the fact that it doesn't get to stale before the end despite its lack of variety. While the story is somewhat of a throwaway feature I still appreciated that the developers made a minimal effort to make it interesting. Apart from the story mode there are also driving challenges that can be done to gain some practice time before the missions. Driver for the Gameboy Color is a good but not great game that I would recommend to mission based driving fans with low expectations.
