I cannot believe this guy never figured, how switch to the cockpit view they pay him to review games and he can't keep tapping through the view button till cockpit view pops up he really seems to think hes playin crapterian game like nfs hot pursuit or most wanted without a cockpit interior view... goes to show why not to trust GS reviews @ times

I think there is room for improvement.. Sound in particular, When are car games going to start sounding like there real life counterparts? I enjoyed DRIVER but definitely there is no excuse for no improvement.

I just wish that I had it for the PS3 instead of XBOX. Great game with huge map.

Really liked the game. My only regret is that I spent too much time trying to do all the sidequests. As a result I didn't finish the story and got to the point where a necessary OS format ruined my saves.. because games nowadays DONT SAVE IN THEIR ASSIGNED GAME FOLDER *ANGER ... I'm looking at you Mass Effect >=( *cries now..

Ack! Get that Playstation off it's side!

Sure, it circulates air through the unit better that way, but you're going to wear out the spool on the optical drive!

Ahem, anyway....

This game was rather good - personally I think it would've been better without the shifting mechanic.

I felt the core driving gameplay was strong enough on it's own, it didn't really need the extra gimmick to make the game a viable one.

does this game have much replay value? is there a simple way to go back and do races again w/o starting the story over?

da2g
da2g

@QueerGamersXist i think that he answer is yes - you can go back and choose to play the races again

Thought the physics in this game were way behind both driver 3/parallel lines. Kind of sad really.

brok
brok

@spammehardo it was better here than Parallel Lines, but Drivers 1-3 shared a nigh-on-perfect car handling, though 3 had some horrible collision detection with curbs and jumps. IMHO Driver 2 had the best overall physics, but D1 is the better game overall.

@brok @spammehardo I'm talking actual car modeling physics here. Body roll and rollovers looked quite realistic and awesome in driver 3/parallel lines.

Physics just look way more active and action movie feel to them.

@spammehardo @brok car modelling and physics are two different things. The rolls in D3 (and that video) were anything BUT realistic. The roll into the ocean even goes in the wrong direction! It's hilariously bad, but make no mistake- it's still just bad. D2 got it right, while D1 and DSF barely had any rolls at all.

When I read the text I though he said "San Francisco is a pretty bad game" I was about to curse everyone on GS.

Oh God.. As someone who lived in Sausalito, Mill Valley, San Rafael and Corte Madera, that guy IS from Marin County at 42 minutes haha. It's soooo boring in Marin.

This game was dope, I hope they make another one. Although, not sure how they'd work in the shift mechanic again story wise. lol

Driver SF was awesome! if not my favorite racing game besides the dirt series. Haven't found anything like it.

@jourideblaere I agree, Driver SF was great and first DiRT was awesome...but then got super watered down in consecutive games

Great game.  Easily some of the best arcade driving physics in any game.  All the cars handled really well.

I've loved all the driver games. They really fill a bit of a niche and the latest one in San Francisco had some very innovative features. It was just pure fun!

yes... let's go back and remember and reminisce on a game from back in the day.

really guys?  this game is 1,5 years old.

Funny that they have one of each console, but about a dozen 360's. Wonder if that's how many they've gone through lol.

The first Driver was so awesome and 2 was lot's of fun as well. After that though GTA pretty much was better than anything driver could do.

hystavito
hystavito

@Kurushio In a video the other day, I forget which one it was, they said those 360s were all red ringed, they said exactly like you thought, that's how many they went through.

Saketume
Saketume

@KurushioThey had that lovely heavy, swervy 60's <-> 70's gas guzzler feel to it in the first two games.

It was real fun to do car chases until you hit a straw of grass on the side of the road and your car came to a stand still as if you hit a brick wall.

Then I saw the pretty graphics of the third game and impulse bought it. Bad move D: I haven't liked the series since. It lost its gritty Steve McQueen feel.

@Saketume @Kurushio the driving didnt bother me nearly as much as the on foot gameplay... its like they dug it out of a bargin basement game and slapped it in

i want GTA5 to have driver 1 and 2s weightier car handling (well maybe not that heavy since gta is less real) because ive been playing gta4 for the first time in a year or so and i completely forgot how bad the driving was....its driving a bouncy castle on wheels

nick-nikol
nick-nikol

As an idea it wasn't so bad ,it was actually quite interesting. On the other hand it had quite a few errors. The graphics were mediocre, the cars didn't sound as they should have, and although it was an open game ,there was always day driving, and not night or rainy weather driving. To sum up the whole thing was kind of fake and failed to convince of the real thing ,let alone it was arcade and not driving simulation as it was trying to pretend.

brok
brok like.author.displayName 1 Like

@nick-nikol Driver has NEVER pretended to be simulation. They said time and time again they were going for a Hollywood chase feel. Absolutely NO idea where you got the idea it was a Sim...

Driver.. brings back memories. I played the Driver 2 demo to death on my PS1. Bought Driv3r for PS2 because of that. Too bad Driv3r sucked.

This was a fantastic game. I love the back and forth banter of when you possessed random drivers.
