Martin Edmondson, founder of Reflections and creative director on Driver: San Francisco, walks us through some new features!
this is a mix of driver and nfs hot pursuit
graphics don't look awesome, and the shift ability can ruin the game or it can be something fun based on how they use it. I believe they should not use shift in the main game (campaign mode) and main story and they just need to put a "shift playing mode" which there is absoloutly no story and its just side missions (like the cup chase) and in that case they would save the game, other wise its obvious that shift ability will be an overrated ability and it will make the game both uninteresting and at the same time extremely easy (which based on the older versions it should not be)
I must say this version of san Francsico looks great but the idea of shifting car seams to be a bit too far from acceptable! This game is gonna be ruined mainly because of this weird shifting ability! The coma thing isn't enough to convince me! Sorry Ubisoft, your're one of my favorite company but this game will be a total failure!
So basically the entire game isn't really happening. It's Tanner in a coma... That to me seems like a bad idea. Not to mention the shift feature will cheapen the experience a little, at least for me. Oh no I lost him. Oh it's okay I can just hop into another car closer to him. It takes away some of the drama and tension from the chase. @miscrisostomojr2 You're kidding me right? Driver 3 was just down right abysmal. The story was terrible, on foot was awful, and driving wasn't even great. Parallel Lines, if anything, saved the franchise. It was the first Driver game I actually bought since the first one. Out of car isn't a bad thing either and doesn't instantly turn a game into a GTA clone. For one because Tanner is a cop.
glad it looks like theyr dropping the out of the car - or at least minimizing it by using shift- free-roam genres starting to become a generic archetype drawing from gta more focus on the actual driving

Ruf is a company that modifies Porsches. It's not a "cheap" version.
mmm shift option looks like good but it could become repetitive and boring I hope that´s not going to happen.
ruf is a real car its like ford and mercury or chevy and gmc so porches cheap version is ruf
This shift stuff reminds me of a Wheelman, and did anyone noticed Porche like cars named Ruf??? Found it funny a bit.... :D
i cant judge on the game from this video yet what we need is the feel of original car not shifting ten times in second not promising much
Woah, seems like the good old Driver game, with the same handling as what Edmonson said. Well worth waiting to have a game that was so great until Parallel Lines.
love the handling and how your hands move depending on how much power you put on each turn you take around a corner!
they dumbed this game down with its shift feature, that means u cant get out and jack cars the traditional way. other than that looks pretty sexy, mee wantee.
I see hands! I see my hands!
i don't know..i cant judge on the game from this video yet..its not totally showin' how the game is goin' 2 be..but am lookin' forward 2 be a good one..especially the man in the vid. is sayin' that its an early view for the game..which means that there will be more work on it and more improvment for the game and especially the graphics and many other things...but really i hope that "driver" game 2 come back again through dis one "SAN FRANCISCO" or even any other future versions..
the shift thing would be an awesome online feature. but as some have said, how will it play out in the story. you go from being chased to chasing yourself? to calling a trucker for backup, only to crash into yourself. lol its funny its like playing chess by urself ..... damn i took my bishop LOL
Soooooo can you get out of the car or wat?
I piss myself everyday know theres going to be a new Driver.
when will it reales to indonesia?
Takes me back....
Tanner....The friendly driving ghost? Looks like they had competing with that "Unlimited test drive 2" title or wotever it is in mind, otherwise can't get the point of the google-map approach. Stick to the first 2 Driver installments' handling characteristics and that's all you need to keep us happy. This new feature can sure mean virtually no down time at all, but how that will work out with the active plot exactly, doesn't show at all.
Hope it's as good as the original. Not many games had such a fantastic physics engine at the time. This one will have to break new ground in other areas to regain the recognition that the series deserves. That first person behind-the-wheel view is already looking very awesome.
Finally, a game that follows what happened in Driver 3. That game had me on the edge of my seat at the end. And hey, at the beginning! JOHN Tanner! They reveal his first name! In the previous games, it was just Tanner... KEWL! And I am so excited for shifting and that it's on the Wii! I wonder if Shift will be availible in free drive, or only in missions.
City streets look pretty good. Wonder if you can drive into the Sunset or Richmond districts
look promising.. this is not GTA.. this is driver.. the idea of shifting is really awesome.
I still think that the original Stuntman on PS2 had the best physics engine Reflections ever made. If the cars handle like that this game is an A. If they handle like Stuntman ignition's unrealistic bricks on rails i'll be very disappointed. Seriously just remake Stuntman for the PS2 and improve load times and graphics and it'll be an instant win...
this is gona be kick ass ;) cant wait to njoy in it =)
This actually looks pretty cool. Looking forward to it.
AS HE SAID this was a very early preview of the game of course they will improve it to maximum please.. look at the release date and stop saying things like Bad graphics etcc
sucks!!!!!
we're talking here about a driving game, and all I hear is : can't get out of car? no killing people? all to do is drive? omg omg makes me want to cry really
Looks good, I miss a good driving game, with challenges and lots of fun. graphics in a driving game are nothing, it's everything in the gameplay. too bad games like NFS underground and MW2 are taking over the gaming industry, few true gamers are left... people that never played games like ninja gaiden, super metroid, battletoads, etc... can't just get the real feel what is to game with honor and pride! cmon I'm not saying this game is good or bad, but please don't judge it like if you were judging some music album by the front picture!
what is th story ?????
The game seems to be more strategy based, the key focus doesn't seem to be how well you drive. It could be interesting, but it could also be a complete disaster.
I really did not like this one..........old cars.....bad visuals.....cant out of da car......no car damage......etc etc etc..............................
handling looks really tough... shift makes it too easy... not sure about this game
Totally agree with you Snipervvviii. I hope SHIFT will be "hard" to get...
I really hope the 'Shft' ability has quite a long recharge duration; it looks like it's a consequence removal tool. If you screw up, don't worry; there's always Shift! Another thing, what happened to rear-wheel traction?
Ability to run over pedestrians seems to be off.... thats gay
heh, as I think of it, it's great feature for game to be called "Agent Smith" TBH it's just like in the Matrix trilogy - when agent smith just "shifts" to the closest person body - remember the trucks scenario? or the helicopter?
Shift F5
ok... besides the huge map, you can shift to whatever vehicle in the city and that's because? and the reason I want to do that? storyline? Seriously I had the original game on the PS and they've dumbed down the whole series
- The graphic look so out-dated not even close to Mid-9 Club. - The "Shift" ability seem very bullsh1t - According to the trailer, handling of cars in the game looked disappointing.
it looks weird, unpolished, and no car-damage! hop they fix it, prior to release.
does not look good :( shame
I'll check it out just because it seems to be a fairly accurate reproduction of my city. Although it appears you drove past AT&T Park and there was a road where McCovey cove should be...hmmmm ...tsk tsk edit, shift looks really lame...pointless and not challenging in fact
look good
Driver was always about cars and not foot missions. Hence the name.
Oh, this game will truly draw a mixed reaction from many gamers over here. Most game critics may call it a good game or a great game, but there will be much division among its fans. Many may be unimpressed to know the fact that shift is a way to change cars without getting out of them, which implies that the on foot gameplay has been scrapped. Ubisoft Reflections is too scared to be compared to the GTA franchise, or to be called a GTA clone, so this was the final decision for DSF. And the on-foot gameplay wasn't any good in D3 or DPL anyways, so I see this as a huge step forward. It will be more like Burnout: Paradise and Midnight Club LA. With that said, it will be liked by many racing fans, and disliked by those who were expecting a game that tops GTA in its on foot gameplay. At least film director returns, as does the original Driver game's driving engine, which I do not think any of the other Driver games were able to top. Checkmate!
