Really Fresh Game

User Rating: 9.1 | Drill Dozer GBA
Gameplay wise the game manages to keep the fresh feeling you get the first time you change a gear all the way through.

The game uses a fairly simple premise, you have a drill dozer, a unit which your character sites in and you drill stuff. The game makes this process more interactive than just pressing the drill buttons (L & R). Firstly, R drills the 'normal' direction while L spins the drill in the opposite direction. Secondly, the engine of drill dozer can be upgraded using gears found in the levels, after each level the gears become too worn for continued use, so in each level you start with 1 gear. The drill dozer can carry a max of 3 gears so, 2 gears can be added to your dozer in each level. Thirdly the drill bit can be upgraded to allow it to drill through materials it wouldn't be able to normally.
These factors are all combined with some genuinely fun platforming to make a great game, everything from normal levels to boss fights are great to play through. The upgrade system could've been more in depth and hopefully that will be addressed in a sequel.

Graphics and are great all the way through and the cut scenes have a nice style to them, the only draw back is perhaps the cheesy explosion animation thats used through out the game. The graphics won't blow you away but they are better than solid.

Sound is solid, the sound effects are great but nothing very impressive.

The game isn't very long, should take a couple of days to play through casually but it won't stand up to more than 2 days of intensive play, even with the extra maps.
