Virtua Athlete 2k for the Japanese Dreamcast
Sega joins a growing group of publishers looking to cash in on the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, with Virtua Athlete 2K.
Sega of Japan recently confirmed that it is releasing a new sports title for the Japanese Dreamcast, called Virtua Athlete 2K. Although a North American release is anything but confirmed, this Japanese original seems to be based on the old arcade hit Track and Field. Virtua Athlete 2K will feature seven different Olympic sports events, just in time for the 2000 Sydney Olympics in Australia. There's the 100 meter dash, the 1500 meter run, high jump, javelin, pole vault, and other events.
The game will support the Sega network in Japan, so armchair athletes can post their best times and scores on the Internet to see how they fare against players from around the world. There's even a create-a-character mode, where players can make their own cyber-athlete, customizing specific abilities, track outfits, shoes, and even sunglasses. The game is set for a July 13th release in Japan and will retail for 5,800 yen.
