What we heard: Here's what's clear: On March 12, Capcom plans to make at least one game announcement as part of its Resident Evil 5 launch event in San Francisco. The publisher revealed as much on its official blog, saying, "To top it all off, there will be new game announcements, stage shows, and Resident Evil activities all through out the night." (Emphasis added.)

So what's Capcom got up its sleeves? Enter Matt Dahlgren, associate product-marketing manager at Capcom. On Friday, Dahlgren gave an interview to Canadian gaming blog Game Focus as part of Capcom's buildup to Resident Evil 5's launch this week. In the process, he made two independent statements that, when taken together, may indicate that the publisher is working on a game set in the Resident Evil: Code Veronica continuum for the Wii.

First, Dahlgren addressed the possibility of RE5 coming to the Wii. "I don't think Resident Evil 5 would transition well onto the Wii," he said. "With that said, though, we really cherish our fans on the Wii, and Capcom supports the Wii and definitely wants to make sure that we are not alienating our fans of the Resident Evil franchise that own Wiis. So I would say to those users that they should pay attention to the near future, and there should be some announcements coming their way in the near future that they should be pleased with."

So something in the pipe for Wii gamers, check. Now what about Code Veronica? "Nothing is planned for the game regarding a remake on PSN/XBLA, but what I can say is if you are a fan of Code Veronica you should pay attention in the next couple of weeks, there is some news you should be very pleased with," Dahlgren noted at the tail end of the interview. "Pay attention on the 12th."

The official story: Capcom had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that Capcom is prepping a Code Veronica announcement for March 12. However, considering the publisher's own statements, it is entirely possible that Capcom is prepping more than one game reveal, with the Code Veronica and Wii announcements being mutually exclusive. It also remains to be seen whether the Code Veronica announcement indicates an all-new game, or simply another port of the highly well-received original Dreamcast title.

oh god! this is Darksides isn't it? luckily the area I live in sells new and last century games. Finding the original for me would be no sweat. And if all else fails, I will buy it from my friend who thinks that CV is way too difficult. I am perdicting their next board meeting. "Sir, many forums on the internet who involve wii owners are mad as hell!" "Easy we will just make a game in 6 months and see if that shuts them up." "Good idea sir!" "But we tried that and it didn't work." "Bob dispose of this non-believer. All hail on rails shooters!" they really don't care about wii. All RE fans should buy PS3 or Xbox 360. I have lost faith in capcom and the RE series, but I still have all the games before umbrella chronicles and five. See ya capcom im going to play one of your good RE, RE Outbreak! Oh and to let you know, Silent Hill has become your former self and is practically welcoming us all with games that remind us of your original crap. I just started them and they make me feel like im back in RE 1,2,3,outbreak 1 and 2,and as always CV! BOYCOT DARKSIDES!!!!

    Uhuhuh.

Looks like we'll finally get to run around and blow up lickers as Claire! She's my favorite RE character...."CHRIS"! She should have been in RE5 as well, but I can't remember where her story left off...I think you kill Wesker @ the end of Code Veronica as well...

@TheBatFreak777 - Nice! "WiiMake." I like it. I think that bit of gaming lexicon will definitely catch on. The only thing though in this particular situation is that this is a remake OF a remake OF a remake!
It was first on Dreamcast, then remade on the PS2, THEN finally remade on the GameCube [here's the *poor* (for being obsolete even when it came out back then) review: http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/adventure/residentevilcodeveronica/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;read-review]... and now this!!). I believe that would make it a "WiiWiiWiiMake"! Lol, ridiculous!

Resident Evil 4 and it behind the back camera angle and cursor aiming worked good for the wii but how the old resident evil games work i think this game would be a total waste of cash

Dare I say that the word "WiiMake" should start being used? How many more things like this will happen on the Wii?

lovely, 360 and ps3 get resident evil 5, a whole brand new spanking resi game and what does the wii get? a remake, oh horay after the terrible resi 2 and 3 (oh yes and code veronica) releases on the gamecube I expect we're gonna get nothing more than a simple lazy re-release of an already ancient instalment with half arsed wii controls tacked on so they can call it a "re-make"

Personally I wont even bother with whatever it is if this turns out to be the case, I dont know about everyone else but i personally dont wanna play a game I've already played. If however they put in some real effort to remake it as they did with biohazard then I might well consider it

The only Resident Evil games they should be remaking are 2 and 3. Even then, theyre several years too late anyway. I bet they wont even update the graphics if they did. To think that the GC was capable of graphics like the Resident Evil remake......and it just shows the lack of effort devs make with the Wii.
