Max Steel Hands-On

Curious how the mighty Max Steel is looking on the Dreamcast? Check out our hands-on impressions of the game in action.

Max Steel, cartoon hero, is almost ready to come to the Dreamcast. In a recent run of a new build of the game, we found some fast-paced action and a story that fans of the show will take interest in.

In this third-person adventure, you follow Max on a quest to save his kidnapped adoptive father. Max will encounter many enemies and traps along the way, but with his superpowers there to help him, Max is determined to stop the evil forces known as DREAD.

The game is aimed toward a young audience; plus, it's easy to jump right into and start on your quest, and the controls are a snap to learn. Fans of the beat-'em-up style of game will find the quick pace of Max Steel an overall fun experience.

In addition to using your feet and fists to battle enemies, Max will also have an arsenal of weapons and gadgets at his command, as well as the ability to "go turbo" and quickly dispatch anything that stands in his way. With eight expansive levels to play, the game holds a great deal of depth and should provide players with a long adventure.

Graphically, a solid frame rate and a large amount of animations aid the game, which, on the whole, looks remarkably like the TV show. In the time that we played the game, we noticed a slight problem with clipping, but Mattel should have no trouble at all ensuring that everything is up to par when the game is released.

Max Steel should arrive just in time for Christmas.
