another "soft" fantasy RPG for kids or beginners who haven´t played anything better yet.

to describe drakensang in brief words: the game is weak, mediocore, unambitious. i simply can´t understand how does anyone manage to praise it with best notes. such people either don´t have a taste or enough gaming experience.

if you´ve played wast epic RPG gems like the gothic series, the elder scrolls series, baldurs gate, icewind dale, neverwinter nights, arcanum of steamworks and magick obscura, the thief series, the witcher or non-fantasy like vampire the masquarade series, fallout, the system shock series, bioshock, mass effect, etc, and you are already "spoiled" by the extraordinary challenge and originality of all those games and drakensang will simply annoy you. it feels like switching the comfort of a mercedes-benz for one of a tractor.

nevertheless, the game is not bad. it is not broken, it´s not buggy, it´s not offending in any way, it´s well balanced and it´t not hard to play at all. it offers pretty (although not stunning) graphics and enviroments. it´s simply too average, derivative and uninteresting in a long term. the story is extreme linear, the enviroments (where you can move and act freely) very restricted (for example within a large city extreme few doors you may enter) and become further repetitive and there are very few persons and objects to interact with in a meaningful way. the few side quests (unfortunately the main story too...) you encouter are flat, predictable and boring.

after about 15 hours of playing i simply was not motivated in any way to play it further and returned to gothic 3 which i´ve played alreay 2 times.

if you seek a soft, very regular and well playable fantasy RPG for kids and beginners, you may enjoy drakensang. but in case you prefer rather a mature challenge, pick up one of the above mentioned.
