Why does everyone see a dragon or big monster and automatically think Monster Hunter? And MH was a terrible game IMO.

Anyway, think Dark Souls meets Skyrim/Oblivion.

    That is all.

Probably because Capcom made MH and is now making Dragon's Dogma. And MH was a fantastic game IMO.

Also, I have yet to play it, but I've heard that Dark Souls' combat style is similar to that of MH, if that ends up being the case then thinking Dark Souls could contribute to thinking MH, or if you haven't heard of Dark Souls then you might think of MH when watching gameplay videos of Dragon's Dogma.

Only in the sense that you have to watch what the opponent is doing and your own moves are restricted by stamina/animation speed/vulnerabilities in a way that does not allow you to just mash buttons

Dragon's Dogma is an ACTION game, and it has not more to do with RPGs than Call of Duty. It's an open world action game with monsters and lots of fighting

From everything I have seen, it looks more like Lost Planet 2 combined with Monster Hunters, with a dash of God of War and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow tossed in.

DD is NOT an action game, it's an action rpg and what you said about CoD is absolutely moronic.

Despite the sarcasm in this sentence, the hype this post has given me literally made me drop my hate for Capcom and pre-order this game.

No, I think hes right, its a straight action game. You pick a class at the start and the class has defined moves, there is no character progression at all, aside from gear.

It just kinda looks like an RPG, with the MMO styled hud, and medevil setting with wizards and crap.

Lol pretty funny that when a game manufacturers make a game that has not been released yet, and call it RPG or action-there are a lot of people that do not produce game and say no it is not RPG or action etc.

No, this doesn't resemble any previous capcom title

It's capcom purposefully emulating PC RPG style and supressing their usual design sense.

That's why the character they keep on showing off is that plain looking redhead with generic 'realistic-fantasy' outfit.
now there IS great looking stuff in this game, but it's off in screen shot galleries without center attention.

    Like this:

That armor's great. That's like 80's Dungeons & Dragons imagination brought into glorious reality(in a vidyagame). It's god damn real ass armor and you're swinging at this kobold bugbear guy in a dungeon. Fantastic.
But it's not modern-generic enough. You have to appreciate what real, historic armor looks like to get as much enjoyment as I do out of this screenshot.

That's why http://mmogamesvs.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Dragons-Dogma-8_01.jpg is the character they keep on showing in screen shots, you can tell he's wearing linen and leathers with some metal (oooh realism!) but with enough modern nonsense bits to go "ah its a fantasy guy". And dual wielding and a bow.
Now the thing is, it's not a bad design. If Bethesda or bioware made this it'd be notably upper class, but this is Capcom, and knowing their actual potential this is kinda frustrating, it's patronizing for Americans too...

If it looked like Lost planet or monster hunter it'd be pretty great, but those two games largely failed in America and it's got Capcom feeling glum about the west. So Capcom is purposefully giving their game juuust a little bit of downs syndrome, to see if Americans really do prefer this.

This game is a mash up of a lot if features from a lot of different capcom serious. I.e Breath of Fire, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry...etc.

The developers have confirmed moves similar to Shoryuken, you can also see a Dev playing and doing a thrust attack similar to the one Dante does. When asked about it he says "well I was head designer of Devil May Cry."

The combat is more slowed down & strategic like Monster Hunter. RPG elements like the party and assisted attacks might be influence from the BoF series. Exploiting enemy weaknesses life cutting off a tail to prevent certain attacks along with collecting the tail as loot comes from Monster Hunter.

A lot of the skills were probably influenced by Capcom action games and fighters. You could probably compare the pace of combat to Demon's Souls, but I believe combat gets more frantic Akin to Devil May Cry. Weak enemies can kill you just as easily as boss type enemies, similar to DMC, MH, & DS.
