@snova9308   If you kill your pawns off and never go back to a riftstone you'll probably be able to get away with playing solo. Personally I prefer to have at least one pawn to serve as a distraction for hard boss monsters, but if you truly can't tune them out, try throwing them off some super high cliffs or something and then stay away from riftstones.

iam playing the first game and I love it, but does any body know with the DLC CONTENT of dark arisen , if I have to play the entire game again just to play the DLC..   if that being the case I will pass....not a big fan of playing games over again.... too many great games out there

@stony4cloud Well, to play the dlc you need to be at least lvl 50, or else you wont get far. I played the "first" one. Now I'm playing again, but when I get the Dark arisen I'll use my save and continue the game.

Great game, and I agree with the review, it's very unbalance at the end of the expansion, close to frustration.

is it possible to just get rid of those pawns, and go around solo?

I perfer soloing when playing games like this. (especially when the company around you are stupid AI)

@snova9308 I just bought this yesterday and only played the prologue. It seems that "Pawns," are there no matter what? I answer you not of knowing the answer but because I agree with you.

I'd prefer it if these people were not there too! However, I think it is essential for them to be there for boss battles.

The thing that annoyed me yesterday about them was...

THEY NEVER SHUT UP!

I was trying to get my bearings and get a feel for it, the Pawn's kept talking and talking. then more show up and before I knew it, they were away fighting things up ahead and I was still smashing crates for loot?

I still don't know what to think abut it yet, I will give it a go again soon but last night I just wanted to see how it played? I was not impressed with the Pawns... so far.

The story though, really does interest me. That is why I am looking forward to getting into it again. As for the Pawns, not that keen... yet.

Flaws and shortcomings aside, Dragon's Dogma is the best rpg I've played in a long time. Way more fun than Skyrim. Definitely a step in the right direction for Capcom despite the re-release bullshit. Looking forward to see what Deep Down brings to the table.

This game is pretty damn good. I pre-ordered this, since I never got around to playing the original release.

However, this game has absolutely NOTHING on Dark Souls, which is THE best console RPG.

Could someone let me know if your characters from the original DD transfer over to DD:DA?  Also do I have to buy DD:DA if I want to play the new content or is there a download for owners of the original?  Thanks everyone!

HipHopBeats

@demoneyes4As long as you have a DD save, your current characters transfer over to DA. DA creates a seperate save from DD when you install it on an account with DD. You can even start a new game and still the eternal ferrystone bonus if you want.

You have to purchase DA either on disc or download it to play the new content. Ferrystones are way cheaper in DA. Better to buy the disc and save HD space.

@HipHopBeats @demoneyes4 okay but what if i completed it and started a new game, can i no longer use my old character?

Thanks for the recap of the game that I've already beat like 10 times lol, and yet he still didn't really get into the Dark Arisen gameplay or story lol.

Still no PC? Common Capcom, stop messing with those HD texture discs (really?), wisen up, drop a DECENT port on Steam and watch that money roll in.

C'mon Kevin...  DRAGON'S DOGMA has always been a difficult RPG.  Critics bemoaned the difficulty even first release.  Truth is DRAGON'S DOGMA is a classic RPG where you must grind/level.  It's classic RPG DNA...  although becoming less important in recent RPG's like SKYRIM.  Level up, play very carefully, and understand that you may need to "do a DARK SOULS" and accept -- or carry implements to avoid -- death.  DRAGON'S DOGMA DARK ARISEN is a great game that's hard.  High difficulty doesn't make it "cheap."  You're exploring haunted places and fighting terrible monsters...  so play carefully.  Sheesh.  DRAGON'S DOGMA and DARK SOULS have made me believe in fantasy RPG's again.

Half this review is a waste. You should have just directed people towards the Dragon's Dogma review instead of wasting time describing the old content.

And the increased difficulty is a welcome addition. The easy difficulty is one of the original game's biggest issues.

Echo3Delta

Hearing Kevin bemoan the high difficulty at the *recommended* level of 50 was amusing.  I've platinum'd the original Dragon's Dogma and have two Arisen's (on two separate accounts) at the level cap of 200.  I should think any Dragon's Dogma fan eager to get his hands on this expansion would be at least at level 100.

That's not to say that Kevin's criticism was unwarranted.  If the designers recommended level 50, that sounds like the best level on which to base the review.  What I'm saying is:  If you haven't tried this game, but you really like fantasy RPGs, you'll be at 100 before you know it.  If you already have the game, and you liked it half as much as I do, you're already around level 150, so the difficulty probably won't be a huge issue.

@Echo3DeltaI've owned DD since day one and my character isn't even lvl 10 thanks to save and back up save corruption...I almost pulled my chest hair out in bitter frustration...I also own dark arisen but have yet to play it...I pre ordered it but I wouldn't have if I knew my character was gone. I will play it again...just not right away

Is it even possible to play an archer? Archers seem to be disadvantaged by those tight areas

SUNDRAGONJ
SUNDRAGONJ

@Karchy Have you played the game? Archers in this game are not limited to just bows, they also use daggers if they need to get up close, also the pawns should keep enemies at a distance from you.

KinoDaKonqueror

@Karchy Keep moving and use threefold shots and the upgrades. and use the roll and double jump to evade.  Trust me, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

so, if i haven“t bought dragon“s dogma (the 1st one) this is the same game with a new ultra hard dungeon?. The rest of the game is exactly the same?

Carpetfluff

@Ramiro00 There's a lot of tweaks in here and it's cheaper so there's no reason to start anywhere but here.

Geez, this makes Dark Souls look like a broken game.

@g1rldraco7

Dark Souls makes this pretty decent RPG (DD) look like a broken game, not the other way around. Dark Souls has perfect combat, stop hating just because you suck at it.
