- Feb 9, 2012 9:34 pm GMTThus begins what is an assumably impossible quest again, with a second DW3 copy, I'm able to take this at an hour a day without disrupting the maticulate progress I've made on my completionist cart. This will be the third apparently recorded attempt, the first by >nameless< as I cannot off-handedly produce the username, and the second was by myself.
What I've learned:
A Jock or Valiant type character is a must-have as the Jester does not naturally have a high strength stat. Skipping Kandar1 to reach Portoga, and collecting 20 Mini-medals is mandatory because without the Blade Boomerang the fight against Kandar1 is impossible. The set of equipment needed is; Evade Cloak, Magic Shield, Iron Axe, Steel Whip, Blade Boomerang, Fur Hat, and Starry Bracelet. The Jester starts Self-paralyzing at level 17, so getting the Magic key by level 16 is mandatory.
Progress began today I cannot successfully register a Valiant Jester Iperchanced upon a Jock type, dubbed "Joke." A straight shot for Reeve without finishing any fights, I sold all the equipment, and saved the Bronze Sword and a set of Training armour for the Jester, where I purchased a Turban, and high-tailed back to Aliahan without fighting again. Rested with Mama, and the next battle killed my Hero named "Dead," before finishing the battle. Scrounged up 200+ gold and purchased a Leather Shield.
I had a close scrape today, battle:
Four Slimes, Two Ravens
Jester:
Copper Sword,
Training Armour,
Turban,
Leather Shield,
Herb x3
I finished the battle with a literal 1HP, thankfully I hadn't left Aliahan Island, surviving and quickly saving progress at level 5. I learned that Jesters start "zonking" out at level 5 through this battle, it happened at 2HP left and one slime. I was on edge as my phone started ringing and I noticed my Jester self-slept leaving her vulnerable to the Slime. The phone answered and situation dealt with, I returned to an Awakened Jester with 1HP, thankfully the last turn my Jester didn't flop and get herself killed.
More updates tomorrow.

The stole everything, my systems, games, CDs, and movies, but they forgot the power cords and chargers... - Feb 10, 2012 5:28 am GMTImpressive, bwakel_ketsu! Can't wait to read more updates about your noble quest.
As a side note, I made a little research regarding starting stats and personalities, which could help you.
"Standard" stats Jester gets are
STR/AGL/VIT/INT/LUCK) 5/3/6/2/10 (male), 4/3/5/3/10 (female). All of them can get +0/+1/+2/+3/+4 bonus when creating character. That means, if you have ultra good luck, you can get 24/7/10/6/14 male Jester. That would be LOTS of resetting, but of course you can aim for high STR/VIT only. I'm certain it would help you greatly in the beginning. (I still couldn't figure out how exactly personality is assigned, but a few patterns emerged, I just have to conduct more tests. I might even create a FAQ on this topic). - Feb 11, 2012 9:01 pm GMTOrochi is going to end this challenge, methinks.

GT: i derive dx - Feb 12, 2012 12:34 am GMTI agree with TheFinalBattalion. Without healall Orochi is not likely to be beatable, solo (especially round 2). BossTroll, or any bosses after him is DEFIANTLY NOT going to happen without healall.

I personally like Link as a Rugged Shaman Swashbuckler more than Resourceful Gadget Boy. That's why Zelda II is one of my all time favorites, ...(see quote) - Feb 12, 2012 1:38 am GMTAlso, even if Orochi is defeated, Boss Troll won't be. Brutal hits ignore defense and you can't out-heal the damage he does.
It's so strange when I revisit old boards and everyone calls me Final or TFB. o_0

in PvP... the Grammardin is invincible. But in PvM I find the Mathazon to be much stronger... as long as you've maxed out Derivatives.-wing - Feb 12, 2012 10:05 am GMTYeah, that's why post-Kandar2 new rules to this will be applied.

Well post-Kandar2 I will alot myself to one class change and will not be allowed to challenge any further bosses until I revert back to a Jester.

The stole everything, my systems, games, CDs, and movies, but they forgot the power cords and chargers... - Feb 13, 2012 8:38 pm GMTIt was put off for too long, but here is the update. I made an early run of Najimi Tower, started out just going for the 52G chest at the end of the basement hallway. I made it there fairly easy and made a go for the Thief Key, made a return trip for the other chests, and Najimi Cave. I finished up around level 8, not happy about it, but gained the Spiny Whip, a life saver.

The stole everything, my systems, games, CDs, and movies, but they forgot the power cords and chargers... - Feb 14, 2012 1:51 pm GMTThe biggest hurdle this point... Tempt Cave, I made a go of the home nearby and snagged the map before stocking up on herbs. My primary concern is the Magicians, they're rare but they love to spam Blaze, and I'm not a fan of spell-spamming. Second would be the Almiraj as they're not particularly strong, but the sleep effect stacked on self-sleep is a serious pain IMO. Catapila won't be so troublesome, as I can just Flee until I succeed, Echidnas will be a fight I'd want because I'm certain I can kill them. If I perchance on some Butterflys I'll see if I can't get them with my Spiny Whip, but if not "Run Stupid!"
I'll post Joke's stats and stuff later.
And no, it isn't butterflies, as Butterfly is a proper-noun in this game.

First, for what happened to you (IIRC you got to Ashlam) and second for your persistence. Hats off to you, sir!
Good luck with continuing the quest! - Feb 14, 2012 3:31 pm GMTMine niece deleted saved game information, mine completionist work and Solo Jester file were erased.

That's heartbreaking to hear man. I was just perusing your challenge and hearing about this just wow... - Feb 16, 2012 6:58 pm GMTI purchased 10 herbs, and made a mad dash through Tempt cave, I ran from everyfight but two, which were Echidna battles. I reached Romaly without reaching level 9, and snagged all the chests along the way. I purchased a spear on my arrival, and look forward to obtaining the Romaly Pachisi prizes shortly.

http://gifsoup.com/view/19968/office-dance-o.gif - Feb 19, 2012 8:01 am GMTNot a huge update managed to snag both the Wooden Boomerang and LifeAcorn of the Pachisi Track! In addition to this, it seems the Jester has always had better fortune completing the Pachisi tracks, so even though it was only my first attempt I managed to get a Lump of Steel, worth 650G! Basically I used my newfound riches to purchase a Chain Whip, since I'm all set for my melee option I could take on Kandar, but at level 10 I don't think it would turn out so well. I'm going to have to grind out a bit on the gold needed for a Scale Shield. I also plan on skipping Noaniels for now, as it would only hinder my progress, I'm not spelunking just to get an Evade Cloak, I'd rather have a Skirt at nearly the same cost. Which is why I point out the run to Ashalam being so important.

The stole everything, my systems, games, CDs, and movies, but they forgot the power cords and chargers... - Feb 20, 2012 8:10 am GMTGot the Scale Shield right before bed last night, and stocked up on Herbs/Antidotes. Not excited about the run to Ashalam, but I managed, usually dangerous close-calls every time, I used about 23 Herbs, and ran from every battle, leaving me with 17 herbs and 20 Antidotes. I busted out the Warp Wing and flew myself back to Romaly to save. Now I need to grind out 3k for a skirt, I debated the option of having an Iron Axe and deemed it not worth my investment, as I will be using the Chain Whip and Wooden Boomerang, as the Jester isn't likely to Critical an enemy. I also collected on my Garter, not that Ill use it but I'm happy to know I've got it.

I get the fact that you're trying to push it by rushing things, but you're going to need to explain to me why. I mean for me it's perfectly obvious, once my Jester hits lvl 17 the jig is up, as that's when Self-paralysis starts to get frequent.
I came across this in nfrazee28's Monster Medal Mania!! topic.

My full Character collection goal is different then yours
4 Thieves all spells all lvl 99
4 Fighters all spells all lvl 99
4 warriors all spells all lvl 99
4 Jesters all spells all lvl 99 (they seem to stop self paralyzing at level 40 and start doing some very odd things high level Jesters intrigue me)
1 dealer all spells lvl 99 (Justice Abacus is a great weapon 110 attack and not cursed)
all female all sexy personality all maxed stats 999 hp 999 mp with seeds(if possible).
99 of all items
99 all medals
have yet to figure out what else for the file.
oh and as to why I want female; because Light Dress is best armor in the game and Silver Tiara is best helm for fighters in the game.
I'm not sure if you were aware of this or not. There may be a light at the end of the tunnel for Jesters yet!
I'm kinda intrigued by Jesters now too. Maybe I will attempt a solo Jester quest after I complete my solo Cleric quest... Or at least level the one's I have in my completionist file up, and see what they start doing at high levels...

I personally like Link as a Rugged Shaman Swashbuckler more than Resourceful Gadget Boy. That's why Zelda II is one of my all time favorites, ...(see quote) - Feb 21, 2012 6:24 am GMTMy two jesters at the moment are both sitting in Ruida's at L52; I rotate all my supporting characters in and do four levels at a time with each, so I'm most of the way through taking the entirety of the squad of 14 from L48 to L52, and I'm going to catch up these four additional characters we've discussed on your solo cleric thread one at a time. The reason it's the squad of 14 when I have 19 characters before the four last ones is that hero is L99 and has been for some time, and the four thieves are all somewhat higher.
I can tell you that the self-paralysis dosn't end at L40. I've thought about that interlude in my thread when LoveSheep showed up for a while then disappeared again, too, and occasionally wondered just how weird it gets. Into the 40s and even 50s they definitely still self-paralyze, just not as often because other things keep getting added. I wonder if it's just a continually additive thing where as the pool of possible antics grows, all the previous ones stay possible just at constantly shrinking odds, or if any of the previous ones do get retired for good. Once in a while, they also still just gawk at the scene, and fall over and self-sleep without the paralysis, which both started earlier than the self-paralysis did.
Some of the most recently added antics include them doing a puff-puff massage on enemies with any of a few different effects, them "thinking lewd toughts and drooling", which just eats that turn but has no other effect, them lighting some paper on fire and throwing it at the enemy, which does generally around 70 damage, them taking a drink of booze and getting sick which eats that turn then the next turn they're still sick, them sneezing which surprises everybody including the enemies and causes everybody to miss the next turn including the enemies. I've seen a new thing once, so perhaps it's the level 51 or 52 thing, where it seemed to have the effect of raising all allies' agility to max, but what he actually did to do that went by so fast I couldn't clearly see it. I have my text speed at 2, I think, maybe 3, so those in-battle texts often go by fast enough that it takes a jester doing whatever he or she does a few times before I'm certain exactly what the text says.
Even though it's by no means frequently asked, I've given a little consideration to doing a comprehensive jester effect FAQ, or if not a full-on FAQ, at the very least creating a thread dedicated to just the comprehensive list of jester effects. I think if nothing else, once I have my two new jesters through all the other classes and ready to go, I'll start compiling the list and sending out the full four-jester squad from time to time with my message speed temporarily slowed down for accurate transcription.

How about an additional rule, do NOT change to Sage. That way you are wasting the Jester even more.
