Hello. I'm looking to farm a few things including a book of satori and had a question about how item drops work. I could be wrong but how I understand it is the last monster type that dies in the battle is what will drop the item. I also know that the odds of a book of satori is like 1/2048. What I'm wondering is if I fight 4 blue beaks and I kill all 4... do I get 4 chances at the item or just one?

You only get one chance per battle for an item to drop.
The probability of an item dropping and what item is potentially dropped is determined by the last individual creature defeated.
If you want more than one sage, power-level a goofoff to level 20 and change them.

Forgive him father, for he knows not what ticket he purchases...

I am not sure of the ratio and have never had a monster drop that book in battle for me. Just an FYI, on the GBC and SNES remakes of this game you find a second book in one of the dresser drawers in Rimuldar. It is called the Book of Zen in those games.

...and to elaborate a little on the FYI, in the GBC version at least (don't know about SNES; never played it) they are technically an unlimited item because they can be found as ground pickups at ridiculously long odds on one of the pachisi boards, but the BlueBeak drop has been removed. No one is all that sure why. It might have something to do with the thief class making the theft of them too easy, but it's still very easy to power-level a jester (what the goof-offs are called in GBC) to L20, so it's not like the game discourages multiple sages in any meaningful way. And also, if we want to really split hairs and get technical, they are actually called Zen Scrolls in GBC, but this is really getting nitpicky.

Yes, my DW3 goal is insane.

The GBC version overall is not as good as the SNES version. It has to do with the system limitations of the Game Boy Color when compared to the SNES. There is a translated version of the SNES game, and it is an amazing game, too bad it was never released in North America.
