- Jan 17, 2012 5:57 pm GMTI haven't played this game since the first few weeks of original release in the U.S., but I went and bought another copy today for $40. I am not sure what happened to my old copy. I don't really remember much about the game, but it is coming back to me as I go.
After I got to Kanave I bought 3 iron claws, and warped back home and created 3 fighters: Leroy, Jethro, and Gibbs. So far they are ROFLstomping everything at level 9 they hit for 23-30 a shot. Though groups of 4 army crabs suck, so I just run from those.
I never thought they were any good in the past because if I recall they don't get any gear, and the one gold claw in the temple has some hideous draw back. I did a quick board search, and found out they are quite good. I guess I can always switch them to another class if I want at the shrine, and have a super high agi party. - Jan 18, 2012 5:52 pm GMTI played this exact party a while back. It's tough going till you get those Iron Claws (I played with all 4 from the start) after which it gets much better.
Your biggest problem over the course of the game will be defence. Fighters don't have much so every hit you take is going to hurt. The best way to mitigate this damage will be to equip all your Fighters with Cloaks of Evasion so that they take less hits from enemies.
When you first get it you'll probably want to give the Meteorite Armband to your Hero. This will help you have him/her go fast enough that you may come out of battles with little or no damage since you'll outpace a majority of enemies. He/She will also be the only one able to use magic in support of your party in the early game.
Highly recomend changing one of your Fighters to Sage with the Book of Satori ASAP. I picked my Fighter with the worst stats and then handed her (all female party) the Meteorite Armband so she could go fast enough to keep up with the Fighters.
If you prefer defence I hope you made some of them female because the best armor (in terms of absorb) they can get is the Magic Bikini. The Cloak is generaly accapted as better overall, however (I didn't know this when I did this and I did wind up with a Magic Bikini at the end).
Having at least one female in the party also helps because she'll be able to use the Sword of Illusion in battle (casts Confuse).

when there is a man in her line of sight. ~Wizards First Rule - Jan 18, 2012 8:10 pm GMTAt the shrine now about to go get the book of satori, and I have all male fighters. Been thinking about changing one of them, but with the meteorite armband on the hero and cloaks of evasion I am wondering if it is really worth it. They punish stuff right now, and I haven't decided what I want to do yet. Besides I would hate to break up Leroy, Jethro, and Gibbs.
- Jan 18, 2012 9:10 pm GMTYou'll probably have serious trouble with Baramos without at least HealAll (the Hero does get this spell but one person able to cast this won't be enough) and Barier.
Other usefull spells would be:
Sap/Defence
HealUs
Revival spells
ncrease
BiKill
Beat/Defeat
Mass damage spells
By the way, don't worry about not having a female on the team. What they bring to the team is nice but not essential.

I picked up the book and vaulted it for now. Think I want to see how things play out, and if I really want a sage might use another class and power level it.
- Jan 19, 2012 10:09 pm GMTFYI:
Sage's stone = Healus when used in combat... for tougher fights, have the holder use it every turn.
Shield of Strength = Healmore on the user when used as an item in battle-- doesn't need to be equipped, just used.

Yeah I do... see? Zombies! =^.^= - Jan 19, 2012 11:09 pm GMTBoth of those items are not avaiable until after Baramos (which is a huge roadblock to the party in question).
The Sage Stone is in the last dungeon - meaning the only "tougher fights" you can use it for will basicaly be the Final Boss and his cronies.
The Shield of Strength is only available in Haukness and may not even be useable by any of the Fighters - even for it's spell. Farther the Sage Stone comes so close behind as to not make it worthwhile for healing anyway.

when there is a man in her line of sight. ~Wizards First Rule - Jan 20, 2012 7:15 am GMTI fought Orochi last night and crushed him at first, but I didn't realize there was a second fight. Wasn't properly healed, and his breath attack hitting everyone made healing impossible so it was my first party wipe. I think fully healed going into that battle I can still win it, but without a heal all spell it would require a a bit of over leveling to beat bosses that hit everyone at once.
The fight stat gains are insane at every level up. 7-13 str/agi every level. Though one of mine seemed to hit a game softcap or get unlucky because his last 2 levels were 1 str and 0 str whereas the other two were at 13 and 8. They all level up at the exact same time.
I may resort to a sage, but I think I would pick another class to level and change. I figure if the game is soloable with the hero certainly should be doable with 3 fighters. - Jan 20, 2012 7:44 pm GMTDragon Warrior III uses a growth curve to determine stats at a given level.
What your fighter did, simply, was gain stats that put him/her past the curve. The game will water down gains until the stat in question is back on the growth curve.

It also could have been bad luck, but this is the more likely answer.

My bad. Been quite a while since I played, forgot about when stuff was available.

Yeah I do... see? Zombies! =^.^= - Jan 21, 2012 6:41 pm GMTDon't fret with warnings of needing a sage or hitting a Baramos wall. 3 fighters will continue to waste enemies. You act first and kill them before they can attack. In my play throughs I've tended toward this or similar parties, including 4 fighters. Just power on. Though there is little to no decision making with them, it still seems fun somehow.
- Jan 21, 2012 10:57 pm GMTI thought it would be boring, but you are right it is really fun. They seem to critical a lot at level 24 now. About to get the Mirror of Ra to fight the boss troll king. Criticals are hitting for 130-145 now. All of them have cloaks of evasion, and I have whatever the best gear available is for my hero. Only problems I forsee going forward is facing bosses that hit everyone every round. Seems like the healing might be a problem then, but I might just have to level more in that case.
I can always build a back up party, or level a healer pretty quickly if need be. I do want to experiment with a Goof Off to get high luck, and then class change to something else. Also with 3 fighters the hero gets the meteorite armband, so it is like I have 4 fighters in terms of speed advantage. I guess I just don't get the uber crit rate with the hero. - Jan 24, 2012 7:29 pm GMTWell, I just discovered one of the other reasons why fighters are so good. On my way to the town of Samanao, my party ran into a group of 8 metal slimes. My fighter got 2 criticals, and singlehandedly killed a slime each hit. Apparently, critical hits aren't limited to the single-point damage that all other physical attacks do !
I haven't seen any FAQ mention this, but obviously it's a good way to level up in the areas where metal slimes are found. - Jan 24, 2012 7:53 pm GMTCurrently level 31 working on Necrogond right now, and I have had to make multiple trips in and out so far. If you can't kill the monsters here before they attack, most all of them can do some massive damage. Had a troll crit me for 150 damage, the clouds can hit everyone for 40 and often show up in groups of 7, the Mauraders can number your whole party and attack twice, the minidemons can hit everyone for 40, the hologhasts cast defeat. Pretty nasty place, so I have had to cast outside and return to heal up and come back. Good xp though so I don't mind. I got a multi edge sword from a drop and found out it was cursed. I went to decurse it and it got destroyed, so a little bummed about that.

FAQs probably mention criticals ignore defense, which would be a mention.

Let's get Dangerous. - Jan 27, 2012 11:09 am GMTAt 39 my hero got Healusall, so I decided it was time to fight Baramos. My 3 fighters were all 36. It was a 3 round fight with only 1 Healusall needed. If that was my major roadblock then I am a little disappointed.

At 39, you're overleveled for Baramos.
