Plot

Dragon Quest II is set 100 years after Dragon Warrior. A century of peace is suddenly ended when the evil wizard Hargon destroys the country of Moonbrooke. One lone guard, an injured survivor of the attack, makes his way towards the kingdom of Midenhall. There with his dying breath he informs the king of the dire circumstances. The king then commands his son, the prince of Mindenhall and a descendant of Erdrick (also known as Loto), to defeat Hargon.

The prince is not alone on his quest. He has two cousins, the prince of Cannock and the princess of Moonbrooke. However, he must find them first. The prince of Cannock already left on a similar journey, and the princess of Moonbrooke was in the castle of Moonbrooke when it was attacked. It is up to the prince of Midenhall to find them, join together, and defeat Hargon.

This game has significantly expanded in comparison to the orignal Dragon Warrior. The world is vast with a wide variety of monsters and numerous dungeons to explore. I found it to be very interesting and gave me hours of pleasure trying to increase the experience points and levels of my characters. The great thing about this game was it allowed you to control multiple players when facing enemies and each character had it's own special skill and attributes that can be used strategically to defeat their enemies. This game also featured a flying ship (similar in concept to Final Fantasy) which would let you get around in the vast world of Dragon Warrior. Also along with the various magical spells and weapons there was the ability of your weapons cast magical spells when used in battle. Great stuff! You can trade, buy, sell and equip items to improve your attributes as well as your stats. This comprehensive RPG style gameplay was of course back in the day "revolutionary" and in my opinion set the floorplan for all other RPGs that followed. Classic RPG's like Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy are responsible for the diversity and innovation of today's RPG's and should be recognized as roots to all the RPG games that are made today. For any old schooler they would remember the good times with this game and the adventure that it presented to them.
