One of the best RPGs to come out in awhile.

User Rating: 9.3 | Dragon Quest VIII: Sora to Umi to Daichi to Norowareshi Himegimi PS2
After being disappointed by Square Enix for a bunch of releases such as Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XI, I was losing hope. However, Dragon Quest VIII came along and helped boost my hope. I've been a fan of RPG for countless years now and I must say this game ranks high up in the list of great RPGs.

The game isn't as complex as the old Dragon Quest games. Nonetheless, it provides an immiverse story and draws you into the characters' world. Your character does not speak. It is odd true. However, it allows you to name and be that character, which makes you feel like you are that character himself.

The combat is well thought out. As your characters level up, he or she are provide skill points to place into certain weapon specialization or other skills: Hero's Courage, Jessica's Sex Appeal, Angelo's Charisma, and Yangus's Humanity. This allows for great replay values. Why? Becuase you are given but so much skill points per level up, and unless you want to be a wide variety character, I am sure you will be mastering one or two weapons per character. The higher the skill points you place into a certain weapon the better the skills that character will learn with that weapon.

Visuals at first would strike anyone as being Dragon Ball Z-ish. Realize the fact the artist for DBZ also helped in the creation of this game. Nonetheless, the anime factor helps produce a beautiful enviroment for you to wander and explore. *side note* This game rewards you for exploration. By exploring locations rather than running straight to the next major city or town, you are rewarded with goods such as equipments, money, or mini-medals, which can be traded in for special goods.

Sounds are great, ignoring the fact that the script and voice acting sound rather English(British Accent). Ignoring that factor, musics provide a wonderful atmosphere.

Other qualities of the game include the alchemy pot and night/day system.
The alchemy pot which is acquired later in the game allow you to mix certain euipments and items to make more powerful equipments or better functioning items to help you in battle. The night/day system allows the player to feel that time has pass rather than a game where an occurance of night and day are set in motion by the major events. As you move about in the world of Dragon Quest the time passes and night sets in. At night monster are more vicious making players more cautious to wander after dark. Also some quests and special events can be done at certain time of the day.

Overall this game provides gorgeous visuals, immersive combat systems, and sounds that provide a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend this game to any RPG fans.
