A fun remake of a mid 90's snes turn based rpg, that only has one big flaw but is still worth playing atleast once.

Dragon Quest 6 is a turn based rpg that has its roots from the old school days of the snes in the mid 90's. Unfortunately this game never got localized to America back then, but we did finally get a DS remake in 2011.

Pros:

- The combat system is simple and unencumbered with needless gimmicks.

- Characters are interesting and likable.

- Overall theme/feel of the game is fun loving without losing the important feel for the quests.

- Two large worlds to explore and you can do this without being forced in one direction to much.

- Characters can pick many different classes and once one is completed you can pick and progress a different one.

Cons:

- Combat is to easy, even against bosses.

- Way to much random battles, becomes irritating after awhile.

- Characters need more depth, to generic in some ways.

- Story is good but lacks depth and is to predictable.

Game play is basic turn based RPG in style, you gain experience in battle and after gaining a certain amount you go up in level. Going up in level makes your characters stronger. What really shines in DW6 is the travel between the two worlds, you need to pay attention to where you are or it can get a little confusing. A lot of the game is spent exploring and problem solving in the different regions of the worlds, by doing so you progress the overall quest through completing smaller quests.

The graphics are quite crisp and clear. The level of detail is good and there is little eye strain so long as you take a break once in a while. Although the graphics are not as nice as a PSP game they are ok and are not a problem. The color is good and the only time there some jerkiness to movement on the screen is when I adjusted the viewing angle, this to was not a big issue.

The story is well done but is kinda predictable. You start out at what appears to be the end of the game and is a little confusing at first. Your party of heroes attack a boss and lose, when you awake you have lost your memories and the party is scattered across the two worlds. You spend your time learning about your self and reforming the party. This is accomplished by exploring cities and dungeons, as well as helping out npc's and lots and lots of combat.

As far as value goes this game is worth playing once but after that there is no real good reason to play it a second time. It took me about 65 hours to complete the game so the $40 I spent was worth it. The biggest problem I had with this game was the tedious amount of easy battles, it was just to much. I probably could of completed the game in 45 hours if it wasn't for the excessive combat.

Overall I would recommend this game, Its very fun but from time to time it can get tedious.
