Good, but needs more Monsters and islands.

DQM is a rather solid game, although it doesn't quite strike a few cords. It has enough monsters, most of which look good and provide a good challenge along the road to obtaining them. The music is boring, although, and it seems a bit bland overall. There doesn't really seem to be a point or plot, but the boss fights make up for parts of that.

I know out there, there are a lot of Dragon Quest fanatics. If you are one of them, sure, try this. If not, still try it. Dragon Quest is a series that revolves about a heroes journey(varying for each game), and the epic encounters with anime inspired monsters. I like the concept a whole lot. But in DQM: Joker, instead of the usual(hacking and slashing the monsters), you actually collect the beasts. You level them up like in any old RPG, a clear homage to Pokemon. You can also rid of them, or fuse them, to make more powerful beings. This is crucial for getting certain monsters, although some just cannot be created.
The music in this game is OK. I guess I don't mind it, but it is OK.
This game has good gameplay. Its a turn based RPG, like many other games. It pans out quite well, but some of the gameplay is quite shallow, most of that being things like the lack of good monster physics.
There is online play in this game. Yes, its a DS game with REAL online play. The only problem is; its not a matter of how strong and smart you actually are with these monsters; its a matter of how rare and lucky you are.

This is a solid game for the most part, but it isn't an instant buy. Rent it, or something, and if you love it, great! If not, that's OK. I partially know how you feel.
