Bad Luck Dragon

Dragon Crystal is a roguelike RPG on the Sega Master system. In the game, you traverse randomly generated mazes containing randomly generated items, including not only what is available, but also what their use could be. A "pink potion" on one run could heal you, but on the next run be harmful. Once you "discover" an item's use on a run however (by using it or throwing it), you'll know what that item is for the rest of your run at least. While the randomness offers a lot of replayability, you probably won't want to replay this game a ton. The game starts off fairly enough, you may get some bad luck in some runs and run out of food (oh yeah, there is a hunger mechanic so you can literally starve to death)...but once you learn the ropes the first levels shouldn't be too bad. The issue really is the higher levels where monsters have crippling effects on you from draining your power to draining your hit points to even draining your levels...permanently. Oh, and I haven't even mentioned the actual dragons. This leads to the player needing to avoid most or even all monsters at certain points which really just makes for an unfun experience. They really needed to find some way to better balance the game. With it being this luck-driven and unbalanced I can't recommend it. Some players will find enjoyment here, especially at the beginning, but the later levels are just too flawed, too frustrating to give this game a pass.
