Its not only a great Dragon Ball game... its a great fighting game!!

User Rating: 9.5 | Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 PS2
Graphics:

The graphics have improved slightly since Tenkaichi 2 and you won't notice many improvements, but the truth is that the graphics in the game are awesome looking and live up to the Dragon Ball anime, they are flashy, colored and detailed, the Cell shading engine has been improving from year to year, from DBZ game to DBZ game, but the graphics are already so good there wasn't much to do to greatly improve graphics in Tenkaichi 3. The gigantic and almost absurd power waves like kamehameha all look gorgeous to any Dragon Ball fan and to other people to. The animations are also perfect and fans of the anime will feel like the characters have been worked out to the most deep promenor. Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 its a gorgeous game to look at.

Gameplay:

It continues to the one of the fastest and intense gameplay experiences to date (at least on the fighting genre), it all happens very quick just like in the anime, your fingers dont rest playing this game. The gameplay hasn't change much as well, but it was improved and the result its an even better gameplay, faster, more intense, deeper... You can now perform bigger combos, have a lot more moves and there are a lot of new moves making all characters look diferent from each other. Teleport was also improved and this great move that every DBZ fan know so well now works perfectly and its used more often wich its pretty cool, the hard dificulty setting its a really good challenge for experienced players. There are a lot of scenarios fully destructible and they all look pretty cool, there are more than 160!!!!! characters now, all of them with a little story about them, this makes tenkaichi 3 something like a Dragon Ball bible. There are lots of game modes to play but unfortunetly the history mode its smaller than the one found in previous tenkaichi game, but one interesting thing its that the battles now take a lot more, why? because now in battle you can change characters! some story and talking its also done during the battle and cutsceenes for transformations and stuff like that are triggered during battle by pressing the R3 button, this is pretty cool and I thing everyone will like this addition. One strange and funny thing that happened to me... in the 1st battle of the what if saga (the battle with the little girl with purp hair) I had a god damn hard time to beat her in hard mode, it was probably the hardest battle I experienced in the whole game, even beating 5 chars with 1 char in the 100 mode was easier than this little girl ^^.

Sound:

You can change the voices to english or japanese, I always use the japanese voices because I think the english voices of the game suck, japanese voices sound 10 times better, the game has subtitles so this is not a problem, just don't get complacent on a battle cause your reading what the heck the other char its talking.
It all sounds pretty cool, the giant energy waves, the punchs, flying around, destroying things... everything feels like dragon ball.

Value:

The history mode its now smaller than the ones in previous games, but there are more gameplay modes in tenkaichi 3, and other modes already existing in the series now have more things to do, the evolution Z its still there and it works the same way. There are more tournaments now, more ultimate battles and more things to do inside the ultima battle mode. There are more than 160!!!!!!! characters now and you'll want to play all of them and have all of them, and this will keep you busy for a long long time.
