Dead Space 2: Severed offers players the chance to re-explore two of the levels from the original game.

The Aliens inspired opening scene sets the tone for this action oriented add-on and the pace doesn't let up for the little over an hour it takes to complete.
While Severed's pacing is a little faster than the original game, the differences aren't particularly pronounced. All the guns are still there including my personal favorite: the Ripper, as are the stores and workbenches that should be familiar to everyone who played the first two games. The line up of enemies has received a very modest update with the inclusion of the twitcher from the original game.
Where Severed falls flat is in failing to introduce any new locations on the Sprawl. In crafting this brief narrative the developers had the opportunity to introduce players to new and interesting locals on the massive space station. However, they opted to simple rehash two locals from the original game, which was incredibly disappointing.
Ultimately, Severed is worth playing if you still haven't reached your Dead Space quota for the year. It has all of the amazing game play and atmosphere of the original, but it never tries to be anything more.
