I finally decided to make a review about DB Raging Blast for the XBOX 360 (also for the PS3).Let's start!
First of all I have to say that this game is really underrated. It is not nearly as bad as many people say. Now that I said this...on with the review!
Graphics : 9.5/10 .... Why? Well, they look very beautiful, that's true but, the actual reason I gave it a 9.5 in this category is because it is close to the anime.A first, you may think the graphics are not good at all, because they don't give the look of a next-gen game, but I assure you, they are beautiful and close to DBZ.Everything looks great!
The character models and animation is done very well, the charge effects, and the hit effects look good...and now the energy attacks have different effects: eg. the beams have more than one type(normal straight,a beam kinda...wavy...etc).Also,attacks used by more than one forms have different effects. Awesome stuff! The stages also look great, especially compared to previous games and worth noting is the fact that the skies get clouder as you power up.Some transformations are better than ever.
Truth is I'd give it a 10 but it may not look good to someone who has to connection to DBZ.
Soundtrack : 10/10 This is the first time I ever give a game a 10 in this category. First of all, most of the tracks are great and fit the fighting.Yeah, but I'd never give a 10 like this now would I? This is the reason for the 10 : In Raging Blast, you can choose to listen to whatever you want.Just press the Xbox Symbol button on the centre of the controller and then go to the play/stop button area and choose.
Gameplay : 9.5 The gameplay has changed quite a bit since BT3. Instead of the many follow-ups BT3 had,we now have a cancel-based fighting system. To explain : After you finish some particular attacks (different for each character) you can continue with a different combo. Those are the cancels.A sign that you can now cancel is a yellow "shine" on screen when you finish an attack. You can charge some physical attacks to send your opponents flying or hit them harder and follow up etc. (after all this IS next level Tenkaichi)....Something new are the "signature skills. These are techniques unique for each character and can be performed with the "B" button. Can help with combos and all. As for the supers, there are no more Blast 1s and 2s.They are all super attacks. Each character has 4 super attacks and one ultimate attack.Supers and Ultimate are usually chargeable or can be booster by the press of buttons(like BT) and the good thing is that you can actually chain them to combos this time around.Ultimates can be done in High Tension (MAX power?) mode. The are beam struggles and clashes. You can still guard, sway and counter some heavy attacks,as well as teleporting when an attack is about to hit you.Two new things you can do are : you can deflect super attacks (blasts of course) and you can engage someone in a sky battle when they are about to tag out.One more thing : For some team attacks these are still there, but you need to have the partner in your team.Overall great gameplay!
A few notes on this : Someone who has never played this before or not even BT games will have a bit of trouble learning this game.
Replayability : 8.5/10 I have been playing RB of the past 7 months and I still haven't gotten bored of it. It certainly IS one of the top DBZ games. Still, someone who doesn't care about DBZ won't really care about this game either,so they'll forget about it.
Content : 10/10 You can't really ask for more,I think: This game is FULL of modes.
Story mode
Versus
World Tournament (World Tournament and Cell games. You win a skill after you win the tournament. Also,no more ring outs)
Training
Super Battle:
Arcade (10 fight arcade mode)
Score Attack (You fight an immortal opponent and try to score points by hitting him)
Survival
Time Attack
KO Attack ( You are invinsible and you have infinite energy and try to score points by killing opponents.Cool!)
Destruction Attack (You get points by destroying the stage)
Extreme Battle (You fight very strong opponents while making it to the top of the list)
Punching Machine (A real minigame. You have Videl and you try to hit the Punching Machine as hard as you can)
Team Battle (Fight various teams)
Dragonball Battle (Not always open.Win and get a Dragonball)
Anything else you want?
DBZ game review parts :
Story : 9.5/10 Well story mode in this game is nicely done.It covers DBZ.No DB and no GT. It has almost every fight, but it's missing some movie stuff(eg Janemba and Hildegarn). There is also a What If saga with a LOT of what if battles. No special cutscenes but most of the story is told by recaps and dialogues before and in battle.Story struggles etc are done in battle.Yeah, the fight is interrupted for dialogues and struggles.
Roster : 9/10 It's pretty good, but we've seen more complete rosters. No Great Apes and Giant characters and some notable characters missing (eg Ultimate Gohan).Could have been more complete, but believe me,the characters that ARE in the game make up for a big roster.
Customization : 10/10 This is perfect! You can customize your supers and your items.Nice collection of both to choose from. For the items customization...it's a bit like ..."tetris".
A few more stuff :- The camera angles can cause a little troule but the problem is solved (most times) by switching the camera (D-pad)
- on some stages, the ground can break
- A non-DBZ fan may not even care about this game.
-Cool additions : Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta and Super Saiyan 3 Broly (!?)
-Difficulty is very easy...
Overall : This game is a truly great DBZ game, but it's only great as a DBZ game.As I said,a non-dbz fan may not like this as much as games of his liking.A must have for DBZ fans.
Two Scores : As a DBZ game : 9/10
As a game in general : 7.5/10
As a total score :8.5/10 It deserves it!
