Dragon Age: Origins, live from GameSpot at E3.
@ siarhei im pretty sure it is the same dragon, i recognize the area from a different preview...(hope you didn't take my comment to be too harsh lol, it sounded a lot more jokey in my head)
@Dr_Manfattan: I guess you are right. I can't be too demanding. It is a fantasy game after all, and an RPG at that. Probably the attackers have all kinds of buffs. And he does knock them on the ground once in a while =) *SPOILER* I wonder if this dragon is Morrigan's mother?
@ siarhei maybe they didn't do either of those things because with both of those scenarios, the battle would be completely s**t and a complete waste of time.
the dragon sure seems angry but not too powerful.. I mean if it's a dragon, shouldn't he be able to kill the opponent with just a smash? And why doesn't he fly away if he can't do that? I guess I'll have to see,
@ hydn631 i believe the spell and talent controls will be similar to the mass effect wheel, i think i heard that the two triggers will open different wheels(one for talents, one for spells i think) and then you can select categories on that wheel and go into a sort of sub wheel where you can make your decision of what to do.(but this may not be %100, this is just what i can make out from interviews ive read) and just like in mass effect when you pull the triggers the game will freeze, and in dragon age you can use one button to freeze time at any point and use the time to stack spells and talents and think through the battle strategically but i would advise getting it for pc if you want the best results and easiest controls
I so want this game! It looks realy good and it seems to have everything i always wanted in a rpg and its from BioWare too =)
I hope the missions can be done even without Party because how will they're intelligence work ? Its hard too control a full group of 4 people of were should they stand, watt spells to cast, who too attack, this was the Advantage of MMORPG's so that that you have a Human Mind behind that Mage or Warrior, or Ranger etc.. Thats why i loved Oblivion because you can do it alone and that's how its recommended.
remember me a mmorpg and an hack'n'slash this video (and FFXII !) doh! i hope the full game has more epic tactics and strategy...
Lol what the hell ? I don't like the mage, attack like Guild Wars?? with the generic staff attack and some spells(infinite)... where are the spells of D&D? I don't say i want a new BG, but almost similar epic combat... doh:>
Oh man, we have come a long way since: "You encounter a Red Dragon! Will your stalwart party choose to (f)ight or (r)un?".
This reminds me of the first time I saw the Shadow Dragon in BGII. Insta-death. (Me, not the dragon) Can't wait for this game, though I might have to upgrade my video card. The only gripe I have is the "dark & gritty" crap that developers actually think is original, and not done by every other game on the market.
Bioware makes the best american RPGs in my opinion. Mass Effect, Their Star Wars games and Baldurs gate were all really awesome and I know that Dragon Age will be just as good. If it is a Bioware game then you know that it is going to be a really good indepth game.
This looks amazing, great visuals, great combat systems, but i can only wonder, how will the controls stand up on mmy 360 or my friends PS3s? I trust that bioware will make it work though, if anyone can do it, its them. This is Baulders Gate 3 if you want to call it anything like another game, and for all you people who say all RPGs are like WoW, get out.
Wow, I was on the edge. Then I saw this gameplay vid and now I'm sold. I agree, Bioware never fails to deliver when it comes to storyline. A pretty important part in this type of game, I believe. Hell, Bioware never fails to deliver PERIOD.
@DotComBoris I dont think the story is anything you have to worry about considering BioWare is making it. BioWare always has great storlines in their games.
@kakashi6666 Ok, ill give you that FF 7,8 and 10 are great but there is no way you can say Biowares RPG arent compared! FF did Many many good things for the RPG genra but have you played games like Baulders gate, Never winter nights and so on? Bioware has never made a bad RPG while FF likes to basically make the same story over and over with weird ass cheracters. Bioware continues to reinvent and give the player more choices and ultamate control while FF has the same premise to every game. Sorry FF does not compare to Bioware RPGs!
Lets hope the finished game is as impressive as the E3 footage. I also hope the story line is good, as some companies go for impressive graphics, but forget to actually think about the story.
@kakashi6666 Hate to break it to you, but the Final Fantasy stories have been severely lacking. I remember when I thought games like FF6 had the most amazing story ever. Now I look at them and consider which "human is going to inherit some special crystal / summoning power to stop and all consuming evil while aided by some race of fat animals and another race of sexy women animals." I will take a video game with the story similar to a George R Martin novel or games like The Witcher anytime over that stereotyped Jpop crap. Or maybe I just grew up and 20 years of the same type of story / game don't rub me the same anymore.
Seriously can't wait for this game....played both BG and loved them.....gonna b badass slaying dragons, beheading enemies and casting insane spells on them......can't wait
Janpieterzun sorry to say but no other rpg games will ever come anywere near final fantasy for the grate storys and excellance that is final fantasy that being siad you can get some really awsome rpg game out there i mean to name a few mass effect prince ov persia and this games shapeing up to be good as well butnone compare to final fantasy
@DarckArchon It's not WoWish, just because it's roleplaying doesn't automatically make it similar to WoW. You might as well say it's like Neverwinter Nights 2, or Warhammer Online, or any RPG that involves swords and magic. You use the word "WoWish" as if WoW invented the concept of swords of magic and it never existed in previous games.
Like a whole new BG2 system revamp looks great. cant wait to see the large scale epic war scenes n such.
How many HP's do those guys have!?! They were getting owned by the Dragon but kept on getting back up! And is it me or does the cursor look very similar to the one used in Neverwinter Nights 2 ?
@ Janpieterzun Is there any need to bring FF into this, this is gonna be an awesome rpg but don't even try to start hatin' FF like that
Ahh the combat looks too WoWish or like its style, only better graphics better psychics. Still this game looks interesting.
Weeeell.... fighting dragons is great of course. However... Not a huge fan of the dragon spitting fireballs. I mean, his enemies stand right in front of it. Would be much cooler if the dragon would breathe fore down at them. Then, when the dragon actually does breathe fire... it doesn't look so great. The animation where the dragon chews on a guy and tosses him around looks kinda cool, but it really ought to be a "finishing move" of sorts. The victim jumping back on its feet immediately looked silly.
Love the dragon grabbing a guy in the mouth, tossing him out, grabbed him again, toss, grab, toss, grab repeatedly before throwing him to the ground. That was awesome since I haven't not seen it done in game before.
Yeah, probably best not to have 3 people stand in front of a monster that can breath flames... Cool vid
It's nice to see that we are having a dragon this time. There were no dragons in Baldur's Gate at all.
