A great RPG with deep story and great challenging combat

User Rating: 10 | Dragon Age: Origins PS3
Dragon Age has a fantasy setting where you can choose your own origin and race. Each race have their own history, politics and conflict with in their own race or with others. You have a lot of choice in the story. It's not clearcut what is right and wrong. It makes you do decisions according to your own morals or the morals you want for the character. The world has big with a lot of conflict, politics, and wars to solve. It's up to you and your companions to solve these and also solve problems for the companions themselves.

The gameplay is an older approach to rpg-genre. It has a more traditional combat system. It is really solid and fun to do combat in this game. Having a deep leveling system and making tactical decisions on enemies is encouraged and rewarded. It's not a game where you can always attack head on, but also being more tactical with your companions and their classes combined with the enemies you face. The enemies also variate a lot and approaching all of them the same way can be a mistake. The game isn't so hard though that you can't defeat the enemy if you plan a little. The reward is also very satisfying when you are able to take down bosses and hard enemies. The abilites for your character are also important in the way you build the character. You need to make it suit the style of the class and how you want to play it. There is also a lot of ways to build your character up, and encourages players to play their own way.

The story in this game is sublime. Making it possible to carve out a story you want to experience through choices and what morale you have or for your character. The companions are also very well written and made. Having back stories, their own morale and beliefs, and completely different personalities. The story is well written, having your choices matter, making you take your own path with your character, excellent voice over and a great story to dive into. Having the conversation with either your companions or characters you meet in the game are all of high quality. The quests may be made in the old traditional way, but they are all well made. You always get the feeling finishing even small sidequest, you get a big payoff and try to help or change people in the game.

The graphics are well designed. It's not the best graphics made in a game, but the emotions and the mood of the game gets through. It may have some framerate issues when fighting enemies sometimes. But it rarely occurs and it's not an issue for the most part. The effects of the combat are very well made and make the combat more immersive with mages casting spells, rogues backstabbing, warrios bashing skulls with their longsword and arrows going into chests. The graphics are well made, but not the best ever made.

I mentioned that the voice over was excellent, and it really is. The voice actors really get the characters come to life with great acting. The audio overall is just of high quality with having conversations while you are traveling or exploring the world. The effects off the combat are also visceral and well made.

Overall:
The game has very high quality in everything it does. Everyone that has any interest in a good story, choices, great characters and a deep combat system should try this game.
