A Hall of Fame rpg that is showing its age ever so slightly

User Rating: 8 | Dragon Age: Origins (Collector's Edition) PC

Pros:

  • Narrative
  • Ability to control any character in your group
  • Lots of banter
  • Extensive Codex
  • Fun combat
  • Variety of enemies
  • The fade
  • Occasional badass kill moves
  • A few very difficult and important choices
  • Intriguing subplots

Cons:

  • Dialogue can be excessive
  • Can be annoying to run to the world map (fast travel) points
  • Some dungeons make you backtrack way too far
  • No way to change appearance after initial creation (I know there are mods that can do this, but it should just exist in-game)
  • Some performance issues
    • Would occasionally crash for no apparent reason
    • Denerim would cause graphical problems and corrupt saves. Pretty simple fix (game needs to use more that 2GB ram) but it was very annoying until I figured that out.

Nitpickey:

  • Some armor pieces do not show on characters wearing robes
  • Somehow the game thought I romanced Leliana even though I never once selected a flirtatious dialogue option. Guess I shouldn’t have given her so many gifts. #TeamMorrigan
