I don't understand why everyone thinks this looks like shit. Not enough killstreaks I'm guessing? This game is fun, and worth every penny. It's great co op and so much fun with a large amount of replay value. Sorry to all the people that expected an epic thriller from a DD remake.

This review definitely is appealable.

R.I.P. double dragon franchise, this is a punch to the stomach for anyone who hoped for a good sequel of this beloved franchise.

"Double Dragon Neon" isn't really a sequel to any of the DD games. In fact,  it's not even really part of any of the previous storylines in past titles. It's more like a comical homage or tribute to the classic DD games done by developer WayForward.

I will admit that the over-the-top 1980s comedy in "Neon" is a bit much for a series that is as serious as Double Dragon, but all that humor was done on purpose. Plus, the gameplay isn't half-bad: I personally thought the demo was fun to play, to be honest.

This game would have probably worked better if it was called something else completely and was made like an over-the-top parody of classic 2D side-scrolling beat 'em ups in general (Streets of Rage, Final Fight, Golden Axe, Double Dragon etc).

Well, for those of you who still don't like "Neon" for whatever reason, there's always "Double Dragon Advance."

What happened here? What happened to the knees in the face? or the classic elbow move that took anything down in one shot? I'm all for upgraded moves but the classic moves were the best. I wonder when river city ransom will be remade that was a super fun game. Or maybe super dodgeball! with all new power shots along with the old.

The skeleton guy sounds like Skeletor from He-man, maybe he's meant to be a homage to classic 80's cartoon villains.

The women in this game look hilarious. The less they wear, the more they're protected! That's what video games taught me!

When you see an all-time classic remastered like this, you feel the need to give it a try. However, the more colorful version doesn't always compare to the fun you used to have when playing the original. Sometimes, you can't buy feelings

I know. Good looks is good but I don't know, sometimes like when I play Trine 2 I feel that I should absolutely love the game because it looks gorgeous and controls are great but I only think it's "ok". Something's missing. And then I play Syphon Filter (PS) with horrid controls and terrible graphics but sound is great and it's fun and pretty exiting. I don't know what it is.

@Deadly_Nemesis P.S.  After the first four games produced by Technos, other companies took over the franchise and every game afterward was a fighting game rather than a brawler.  Those are probably the games you're thinking of.

On topic... I'm shocked by how bad the hit detection looks.  I'll have to at least try out the demo though, always looking for new local multiplayer games to play with my friends.

We just marathoned the Double Dragon trilogy not too long ago in fact.  Had no idea this was coming out until I saw the Drop on the PS Blog last week.

@Deadly_Nemesis Double Dragon was a "Beat-em-up" where you walked from left to right and pounded every enemy that came your way.

Okay guys I was born in 89 and didn't really touch a video game untill I was about 6 so forgive me for my ignorance but...wasn't Double Dragon a plain and simple fighting game? Yah know like Killer Instinct and MK? I could have sworn you could play as skeleton with a gas tank on his back and some kind of frog guy?

DeskLazer

@Deadly_Nemesis you're thinking of double dragon V.  that was a blemish in the series.  1-4 were all great.

I still remember playing all of the Double Dragon games at arcades when I was a kid. This totally takes me back. Loving it.

@GKRider I was playing it with my buddy about a year ago on his NES. Two player is so fun!

I bet. All i'm missing is someone to play "bro-op" with. Great game though. it might have let some people down but i'm falling in love with "Double Dragon" all over again.

I tried the trial and honestly I'm not impressed. all movement including fighting feels slow and nothing flows well.....and the soundtrack honestly sucks compared to the original.......I'll pass.

If the bad guy isn't spending all of his resources and time on kindnapping the hot girlfriend of a dudebro, then he's probably not a REAL bad guy.

they should've kept all the signature moves like elbow attack and hair grab -> knee kick.  it just doesn't feel like double dragon without it.

Jimmy & Billy Lee seem to punch and kick a lot slower then the original version. I loved playing Double Dragon with friends  way back with the NES for the best system on the planet. This version looks ok, but it seems you have to play through it several times to level your guys up before you can try the harder difficulty levels.

Pass.  Can you still spam Elbow Attack to win?

Downloaded the demo, played it hoping it would be fun , its a major letdown. The mechanics of the fighting system is soo awkward, many times your mashing punch and you want to grab after they fly into the air, always fails because that 1 punch makes it through lol. and the animation may be smooth but if they had more variety into the attacks it wouldve been better. I'm not buying this at all

What's the deal with the mouths not moving ! It really seems to me that the people that created this game didn't grow up playing this game, just following today's trends, too bad; oddly though if it weren't for this review I'd probably would have bought this game..."this game ain't got nothing on Double Dragon 3 but graphics"

JReefer1

The hit detection is pretty lame, everything else seems cool, I wonder if this will be as much fun as the game that inspired it when I first played it ?
