Double Dragon II ... a glimp of the orient

User Rating: 8.9 | Double Dragon II: The Revenge NES
This is the game that got me started on gaming. So you notice I might not be ass objective on this game as I should be.

Yes it is a classic and yes it is a good game which some people might see one in a long line of beat ém ups. But that is what every beat ém up is about. Scores of enemies against a lone hero. Or of course two brothers in the two player part of the game.

What people tent to forget is that the Double Dragon series is one of the first games series that bring Martial Arts in a true American style.

The Super Mario like (read Disney) storyline of princes rescue is a prime example. Which might even have paved the way for many of the Japanese games we know and love today.

Next to this Double Dragon is a classic beat ém up with the for those days limited controls a wide range of moves: hitting, kicking, flying hits, flying kicks, knees, elbows and my al time favorite the al destructing 'spinning kick'.

The storyline starts with the kidnap of Marian (for those not known with the game a kind of pre Lara Croft of those days) Our true American Hero's spring into action and pursue the kidnappers. Which start out as street thugs and build up to body builders and finaly the 'hardcore' martial artists around the evil end bos (with u huge dating problem, why else would he kidnap a nice young girl like Marian)

Like I said I might not have been that objective in my review. All I can say Double Dragon II is a must have which in my opinion blows objectiveness out the door.

A last writers note is ... please excuse my English. It is not my native tongue so it might strike you as limited
