How did you guys learn heroes? My only moba experience was with League and a few games of the original Dota back when I used to play WC3 all the time. I couldn't really get into it back then because everyone would leave after first blood, so I just have some vague memories of heroes like Axe and Spirit Breaker.
Anyway, without League's free week rotation, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with having access to everyone at once.
So, is trying everyone out randomly the best way to go? Or is there a list of recommended heroes?

Sometimes I'll play drafts and least played, but the issue is if you get a hero you're not at all familiar with, it can lead to a very unenjoyable experience.

then watch the videos on youtube how to play them
then practice in co-op matches. humans vs bots (doesnt count offiically towards stats which is a great way of training).
then prep urself for the real match.

You should select a handful of heroes that are a bit easier to play and get decent with them before broadening your hero horizons.
Support: Lion, Lich, Tidehunter
Carry: Juggernaut, Skeleton King, Sven
All of these heroes are relatively easy to play and self explanatory. As a support you should learn good spots for warding, how to stack the jungle, and how to pull and deny your own creep waves. As a carry you should learn how to farm, how to farm, and how to farm.
