Hey all, I just had some inquiries towards bot match etiquette and whatnot. Typically I never do bot matches myself but one of my friends is terrified of playing against players for some reason.

So we went to do a couple bot matches on normal bots, nothing impossible for them but not under their skill level currently either as we just practiced in a few lobbies, and I play as supports since if I play carry it's going to be guaranteed win.

They played as TA and went mid, and I was laning with Viper, and he was auto-attacking, and doing many terribad things as expected, I wasn't upset or anything and I just stole last hits he was missing and did what I could. I was just wondering if it's appropriate to discuss lane control and whatnot with them, as people tend to get very defensive (even I would probably) when people get critical to their gaming technique.

Some people come to these matches to try a new hero or skill build too so I can understand why the guy playing Spectre is doing terrible too, but I don't have any useful info to help with Spectre aside from farm farm farm.

The last type of issue I had was in our second game where a Juggernaut decided to take mid when we had Drow. Now in bot matches of this level it doesn't really matter since the AI bots don't harass enough for it to make a difference, but it's not a good habit to get into since it will make juggernaut play considerably different with mid farm as compared to a real match.

Basically I said nothing and pinged map for ganks, called missing and did my regular dues of courier plus warding, but I was wondering what you guys think should be explained to them since I will be seeing this quite a bit for the next few days. They are teammates so you want them doing better, but you don't want to overwhelm or seem overly critical of their play.

I can't be typing out a tutorial while playing either though so it's gotta be succinct info that makes sense to them. What do you folk think the simplest methods to explain are?

    Auto-attacking = bad
Lane control = important for mid to gank
    Stop feeding = cardinal sin

If you go back to base, or die per any chances, just suggest them things they should do, while telling them why it's better to do this rather than this.

Never force anything down their throats, just suggest and hope for the best.
As for the Juggernaut mid thing, it's a bot match. Let him do whatever he wants. It doesn't necessarily mean he'll do this in a real match. Hell, maybe he's not even interested in doing real matches.

Yeah die typing could be used, I usually use that time to drinks mah tea and reflect on the horrible decisions I recently made, but it's a good idea for sure. The issue is more/less how I would say it. People tend to read tone incorrectly as opposed to if I was talking to them, and seem to take it quite negatively despite good intentions so just wondering about particular ways you'd explain to them. It's hard to explain the importance of lane control and other effects because they have like a meta effect on the game that you don't see in the short term.

I let the Jugg do as he pleased as the Drow didn't ask for mid or anything so it didn't matter and I thought about that too where he might only play bot matches so it will never matter to him as well.

Ask them to do something and explain why at the same time.

"Could you only attack when it's to get the last hit? I don't want to be so close to their tower."

EDIT: Alternatively, do nothing, 'cause no one cares about bot matches.

Yeah I was just thinking too much about it, it's what happens when bored at work it seems. Better to just not care since just bot matches, or to ask and give a generic technically accurate reason instead of explaining the whole concept and when they see it works maybe they will continue on with the method.

Depends, Twinnings English Breakfast or Red Rose Orange pekoe are my preferred regular black/orange teas. Those Tetley white teas with the triangle tri-force teabags are pretty good too.

Green and Earl Grey I usually get if I want tea during the day since I try to avoid caffeine during the day like I'm a 50 year old man, but I work most days so it's the rare Saturday Tim Hortons tea or if I'm a guest and they drink green tea. I usually find it bitter and I prefer my tea a touch sweet. i.e red rose tends to be sweet and tetley/TASO tends to be a bit bitter or blander.
