User Rating: 4.2 | DOOM SNES
The SNES port of the pc game DOOM is a failure. There are a number of reasons for this. The game concept, of course, is great. The PC game was a huge hit and because of the ability to have numerous inputs (other than the limitted SNES controls) there was a lot of options in playing. However, this version pales in comparison to the orignal. Gameplay: 4/10 The controls are not very seemless... and how can they be with so few options. The manuevering is just fine. But the weapons options and switching is stuck in a cycling choosing format, which is not great when you are on the run. But aside from it's flaws, the game is played by running around the place killing monsters. As you go around you find more weapons and ammo as well as health kits to keep you alive. Graphics: 3/10 The graphics in this game are bad... much worse than the PC game. It is expected that an old game be pixelated. But this is just too much. The rendering is pretty poor for what you would expect from a decent port. Sound: 7/10 The sound effects are good in this game - the redeeming quality of the game. The shots fired, explosions and the like are very much like they should be and are pretty believeable. Reviewer's Tilt: 4/10 I really liked the original, and hoped for better with this game. But we are left with a bad port of a game that should have been left on the PC.
