good value and plenty of levels, but choppy graphics will automatically turn off the perfectionist.

doom on the sega saturn. sounds like it would be great. has all of the levels from doom and doom 2 so theres plenty of variety. and playing this on the strongest 32 bit system on the market should be the best yet, right? well, not exactly.

first problem is that when you start up the game, you realize that doom and doom 2 are seperate. it was nice that they had ultimate doom, instead of just regular doom,(theres more enemies and weapons) but you still would expect them all to be from one game. so this is more of a compilation. the opening screen is really dull. it doesnt even show the games seperatly. you just push left or right for the different game(like an option screen where you choose the dificulty). this looks like more of an options screen than a main screen.

when you start the game you automatically notice the choppy graphics. everything looks clear and good, but its choppy. also, when you walk into a large room, the frame rate slows down. this also happens when multiple enemies apear. now this i dont understand. this game looks great on the playstation, but on the saturn, its choppy. the sega saturn was a 32 bit proccessing beast! it had two 32-bit proccessors instead of just one (unlike the playstation that only had 1) so if the first one wasnt working fast enough, the seconed one should have prevented the choppy graphics and slow framerate by helping take the load off of the first one.

the music is pretty good. its not like the super nes version, with the catchy tunes, its more serious music, thats just quieter and in the backround. it really helps set the mood, like when your sitting in your room in the middle of the night, with the lights turned off and nothing to hear but the suspensefull and eary music when you walk around the corner and a bunch of monsters jump out.

the control isnt to bad. the only problem i have is how choppy it is to turn. alot of the times, ill turn to kill an enemy and it will aim to far away from him. it is annoying for when your trying to kill just one guy that is really far away.

this game has great variety. there are 60 levels in total. and these levels arent just small left to right levels. their large dungeons, which you must search through. that is probobly this games biggest redeeming factor, is how long it is.
