having a lot of fun with this game.
So was this game basically the first decent first person shooter? or were there some before this.
Also armour question.. do you get more protection the higher the percentage of armour? or is it a case you get the same protection regardless of how much.. and then when it hits zero you lose the protection.

Wolfenstein 3D was released beforehand, also developed by id Software, and this essentially invented the FPS genre as we know it (there were others beforehand, but generally speaking they were pretty crap).
Armour has two levels of protection; Green and Blue.
Green Armour provides 33% protection, Blue Armour provides 50%. They do their job for as long as they hold out, but literally down to the number; for example, having 2% Blue Armour won't magically cut a Rocket's damage by half.
Furthermore, Armour Bonuses (those random helmets placed around some maps) add to your current Armour's protection value, but on their own are the same as Green Armour.

the music for this version is so much more appropriate than the SNES version which had stupid rock/heavy metal.
Dont get me wrong i enjoy rock music but it just totally didnt fit the game.
THis music is a lot more ambient and more creepy too.

so i figured i would post here as i have 3 active threads already..
Anyway i am on about level 9 or 10 and i have basically full ammo (or close to it) for every weapon. Seems like now the rest of the game is gonna be a piece of cake (cause if i die i simply restart the level with my password.. rather than start again just with the cruddy pistol).

Nope, some levels will probably kick you around quite a bit. Moreso in the Doom II portion of the game though.

good. I dont want it to be too easy.
one the SNES version i played all the doom levels so i know those levels. Doom 2 levels will be new to me.
I kind of enjoy this game cause there is no story to bog it down. I have OCD tendencies and when there is a story i get obsessed with having tototally understand the story perfectly.. which leads to rewatching cutscenes etc.
With this game none of that nonsense.. just fun gameplay. Thats what i like.
obviously i can also appreciate an epic plot though.

You're only about halfway through DOOM 1 at the moment.

will be interesting to see how i enjoy the doom 2 section. because i did play doom 1 many years ago on the snes.. so the level layouts and enemies are tinged with nostalgia.
So when i totally dont know the level will be interesting to see if i enjoy it as much.

yep! anyway recoome_is_god can you help me out with this,
i glanced at the walkthrough for the next level after limbo. it says on skill level 3 you have 4 lost souls and cyberdemon.. and level 4 ots of lost souls and a cyberdemon.
what i dont get is that i started on skill level 3, hurt me plenty.. yet on this level i have a load of lost souls. Has it somehow changed to skill level 4 along the way? i didnt really want to be playing on the hardest difficulty.

man i hate that cyberdemon guy with the rockets. He killed me several times . managed to get him in the end by strafing around him and using multiple BFG9000 shots.

You're playing on Skill 3 (Hurt Me Plenty).
You'd know if you were playing on Skill 4 (Ultra Violence), because the clusters of Lost Souls wouldn't be the problem.

yeah i think i misunderstood that FAQ i read.. i think i am on hurt me plenty.
What would be the problem on ultra violence? (I dont mind spoilers).
I had one cyber demon.. a few of those fat guys.. and about 16 lost souls on the level.

couple more questions (I will post here cause i already have 3 active topics.
first.. is double shotgun from doom 2? Second.. how do i tell when i have reached doom 2? Does the game tell you?

Doom II starts on MAP31. You can get the Super Shotgun before then, but only if you find a secret level (The Marshes).
As for knowing what difficulty you're on, it's because you'd have more than 'a few' Mancubi getting in the way. And more Lost Souls with them, if memory serves.

The double-barreled shotgun was originally introduced in DOOM II, yes.
