This packege contains all of the classic Doom titles, but it also hands them to you in a terrible way...

Doom... what a classic. It is one of the most greatly appreciated first person shooters of all time. With three titles in this bundle, everything should be great, right? Not quite so much... due to the fact that it runs on a broken and unstable Source Port engine.

Most shooter fans would jump right towards a deal like this, having all the classic Doom titles on one CD-ROM. I did that very thing, as I thought to myself, what could go wrong? It all seemed perfect, the install, the load-out... everything. It was all great until I actually played the games. The classics play on a port called, Doom 95... an independent Source Port that id Software grabbed a hold of. It's a decent port too, but like most things, it has its issues.

The first thing I noticed was the texture corruption, as the original sprites seemed stretched to all sides, unlike the original game. Even when played on the classic '320x200' resolution, it all seemed unnatural. The second, and probably most important thing of all, was the lack of mouse support. Doom 95 was designed for Windows 95... who knew? The mouse works perfectly on that operating system, and even some later versions... Until you reach Windows XP and Windows Vista. They can't support the mouse emulation file, as it's a file type that they can't seem to recognize. That was quite unfortunate, as playing with the keyboard is very annoying and unfair at times, as the enemies have great reaction time when it comes to turning and shooting the player.

So the only thing that's really great about this purchase would be the games you're actually getting on the disk... all the classic Doom titles, but besides that there's nothing more to even consider. I only recommend this to one who does'nt enjoy searching for further Source Ports, as there are many better ones out there on the Internet.
