Doom 3 came out a long time ago but it's still one of those games that calls to me to play it every now and then. Oh if I only had the time to play all the games that call to me every now and then.
I have nothing but fond memories of doom 3. The graphics are great given that it's an Xbox original game. While the graphics are dated now they still hold up enough that it doesn't effect the game play or realism of the game.
Doom 3 while not that scary is pretty creepy and gory. There's plenty of variety of monsters to fight and they can spawn in out of no wheres so you have to watch your back. Good thing there are plenty of weapons to fight them with.
Combat is satisfying and the weapons are enjoyable....and the BFG came back :)
One of the things I liked about this game is that the levels are interesting, sometimes there are minor puzzles to solve...but it's not a puzzle game!!! The fighting can be intense but the game never feels cheap. There's never a scenario that you feel you can't over come. My one beef(I think) is that the final boss is retarded easy. Done right you could probably beat him without taking a single hit.
If you bought the collectors edition you also get Doom 2. Can't say I spent much time on this and ultimate Doom....I have to admit it's a little too old school for me now. It's not so much the old graphics as it is the static gun motion. But it's still cool to have it.
Anyway this is a great game, highly recommended for FPS lovers and collectors. Don't be without this one. If you're a gamer who only likes graphics that are of today's standards this may turn you off but you'll be denying yourself of a great FPS experience. I'd rate this game higher but the end boss being so weak and dated graphics bring down the score a bit. Definitely a favorite though.
