It's a masterpiece. Definitely play it if you don't have heart diseases.
In terms of sound, the overall sound effect is excellent. The screams you hear is going to scare you, rather than annoy you. The approaching footsteps and the heart rate are going to keep you nervous. By the way, make sure you have a sub when you play doom 3. It will enhance your experience much more.
It terms of gameplay, the controls are not too much different than any other FPS game you have played. You should feel it handy within the first 5 minutes of the gameplay. The thing that the game does exceptionally well is the atomsphere and the pace. It will keep you focused on the screen even there's a TV show besides you. You'll feel the horror and upset that the developers want you to feel. After playing doom 3 for an hour or so, I'll have to open the window and take a deep breath. Remember the times when you play the early works of resident evil or silent hill? Yes, that's pretty much close to it, but Doom 3 did even better. There are neither too much enemies nor too few. However, they do appear from the most unexpected places. The atomsphere and story telling will leave you feeling very involved. In some levels, you'll be frightened with only sounds of footsteps, or flashing lights even there's no enemy at all. Personally, I have went throught the game for 3 times, but the joy did not loose much every time i play it again. Definately check this game out if you are not a heart disease patient.
