Mediocre.A shame to the DOOM name & legacy.
id software was uninspired when created this game.it's like a clone of quake4 & vice-versa.also,both games were inspired from half-life but i don't want to talk about that.it's clearly that half-life was a major influence.
in comparison with the other games in the series,the ms-dos ones,doom3 is horror.it's more scary than doom1 or 2.at least,that's what people say.i think that it's not so scary,there are some creepy moments when you see pentagrams on the floor & candles & the screen turns red & you hear voices & monsters apper &,&....enough!in rest,it's normal.
the game is very different from the last game,that is final doom.i didn't even had to mention that.
you start the game at your arrival of planet mars,year 2145.you are a space marine(wow,a space marine...who would have expect that?no,a space cowboy!of course that a space marine)that was employeed by uac(union aerospace corporation)to...i don't know.to work there.that was the order of dr. betruger i think.well,these details are not so important,but what is important is that this betruger is the mastermind that planned to open the hellgate,the portal to send the burning legions of hell on mars & further on,on earth.
at the begining of the game,you see some people that are affected mentally by that atmosphere of mars.they begin to go crazy.you enter the base & say hello to people,play supert turbo turkey puncher 3,an arcade game,after that you pick-up a pda,talk with lots of people bla-bla-bla & then you are sent to find an engineer to solve a problem there & so it begins.on this mission the creatures are making their appearance.after a period,all the man & be slaughtered & infested.you will battle them a long way as you teleport,go outside of mars,read pda's,unlocking lockers,lol,kill them,shoot barrels & so on,untill you find the soul cube that is the key to seal the hellgate & kill dr.betruger that is in fact a monster from hell.on your journey,you will also be teleported by betruger in hell but it's only a short trip,it's not something serious,just a small vacation...at the end of the game,after you descend deep in the caverns of mars,the final battle will take place.kill betruger with the soulcube,but betruger is a cyberdemon hero.lol,i remembered his name from the classic doom's.after you resolve him,he resurects of escapes,i don't know so there's a short expansion called ressurection of evil.
the weapons in my oppinion,are not so great but not bad either.somewhere in the middle.the shotgun is very bad,the pistol is abysmall,the machine-gun is mediocre,the chaingun is good,the plasma gun is great,when you fire the rocket launcher you don't even see the missile,the bfg 9000k is not a weapon of mass-destruction anymore & so on.but the most fun is with the rocket launcher.it's very funny when a monster stands near a barrel & you shoot the barrel with the rocket launcher:)
the graphics are great.the main theme is awesome.so at this chapters,doom3 is thumbs up.but,but you have a slight feeling of dissapointment after you kill a monster because his corpse dissapears automatically.in doom1 or 2,when you shoot a monster with the double barrel shotgun...wow,just wow!a great feeling.but here in doom3.
i think that doom3 will not age well & in a couple of years it will be forgoten.but right now,enjoy it 'till it lasts!it's as fresh as it was in 2004!
some of the monsters really look like the ones we all know-the imps,mancubus especially,the caco-demons not quite,so the lost souls etcthe imps here are the most ennoying!they appear from everywhere.they are a real pain in the butt."-imp,get there near that barrel to shoot it...ok bos,whatever you say!"that's not possible.
another weird thing-when you pick up large medipacks or armor shards,you can hear sounds from quake3-arena!lol!
anyway,doom3 is at the limit between good & evil....i mean,good & great.
