Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil User Review
Over repetitiveness killed this game. A very poor expansion to an otherwise good gaming cult

- Difficulty:
- Just Right
- Time Spent:
- 10 to 20 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Been there, done that"
1. Gameplay - Still sticking to the DON'T shoot anything that moves tagline, Doom 3 ROE is a boring repetition of what you had been doing in Doom 3. You retain the weapons cache from the original game with the addition of the Grabber, the Hellstone and the Double-barreled shotgun. The grabber allows you to catch anything thrown at you, perhaps even pick something up and throw them towards the enemy. It is much like the Gravity Gun used in Half Life 2 and more extensively in Garry's Mod. The hellstone has a lot of features each being activated after you kill a Demon Hunter. One of the most notable effects is slowing down your perception of time while not compromising your speed.
2. Story - 2 years after the events of Doom 3, UAC detects a strange signal emanating from one of the Martian Satellites and send a team to investigate. The player, a marine combat engineer, soon finds himself in possession of an object called the Hellstone, and the forces of hell are hell-bent on finding it. The marine fights his way through the complex to reach the Photo Lab, where he meets up with Dr. McNeil, the person whom he has been working for. She tells him that the Hellstone can only be destroyed in Hell. So the marine fights his way, and teleports himself to Delta Labs, where the main teleporter to Hell is located. The marine finds and defeats the 3 Hunter Demons charged with finding the Hellstone, before proceeding into the fiery chasms of Hell. Betruger who had escaped to Hell previously has been converted into Maledict. After fighting Maledict for a while, the latter bites the Marine. But before Maledict can kill him, the Marine shoves the Hellstone down the throat of Maledict, destroying both in the process.
3. Graphics - Not much of a change as it is just an expansion. However, this is the only reason for the game performing so good on the scorecard.
4. Sound and Music - A great creepy sound gives you a horrifying feel, but thats all there is to it. Not much to talk about here as well.
A not-so-good expansion, I would recommend this game to only those who are Die Hard Doom fans.

Same repetitive and linear gameplay. Shoot the same demons 1000 times again.

Although the expansion is not exactly more of the same, it does not offer anything remarkably new either.

A very enjoyable, if short, expansion. Love it or hate it, it's just more Doom 3.

It's a good refreshment of Doom 3 packed in a shorter game, but with improved combat experience!
