The harsh Gamespot review is to be ignored, this was the first Doom I played and its still the best by far

So here we are, a great classic shooting game that basically pioneered the idea of a First Person Shooter (if you forget Bloodshot on Mega Drive) and while it isn't exactly perfect, it is soo much fun and such a challenge to play that you can't help but fall in love.

Its the classic run and gun style of game where you have a set map and there are multiple routes but normally only 1 goal, and you get to that goal by collecting different coloured keys. Along the way there are loads of hidden rooms, special areas and even portals that can transport you to other levels without the need for a key!

The main draw with this game was the weaponry, its simply classic stuff. The rocket launcher was devastating but a bit of a risk if you shot it off at short range. The Plasma Rifle was the old reliable for me, aside from the double barrelled shotgun, but the BFG was simply ridiculous lol.

Anyway the game was great fun, very atmospheric with distant noises from the many hordes of hell resonating through out the levels, often times you were caught by a trap or teleporter which dropped you into some pretty hard spots, but I always seemed to perserveer in the end!

I gave it 8/10 for the fact that its not the original version and is a port, with no multiplayer, but regardless of that it was a classic, fun game that looked fine on the saturn and still brings back good memories today.
