DmC isn't great but it isn't a disaster either.
In many ways DmC feels like a game that was designed to create critical acclaim by focusing on artistic concepts at the expense of replay ability and it shows. The game length is disappointingly short and some of the best combat scenarios also have some of the worst platforming elements.
I haven't had any desire to replay the game after beating it.
However if you wanted to a rent a game for a weekend this game is perfect you should be able to beat it and will see some fascinating art design. Although some people may feel that the new Dante is manufactured to be cool as opposed to the more grandiose Dante in previous entries he still has his moments. Although I was disappointed in some of the supporting cast, Kat the "medium" feels like a generic young teenage girl put in every Ninja Theory game and Mundus isn't an epic villain. Ninja Theory has an interesting take on Vergil was spot on and the tension builds up throughout the game.
I gave the game a 7.5 because it just is not as addictive as a game compared to great games like the first two team ninja Ninja Gaiden games or the God of War series (which in all fairness borrowed heavily from earlier Devil May Cry games). Personally I find it comparable to a game like Bayonetta which has more replay value but lacks the level of storytelling and artistic design.
