C/D this game would languish in obscurity if it was original work instead of DMC

i have to say that i've never heard of Ninja Theory before DmC so (from my biased viewpoint) i say C.

C to the max. People saying D are lying to themselves. Ninja Theory is niche company who can't pop out a great game for ****. The major of gamers have never played or heard of their games as whole. Heavenly Sword and Enslaved? Mediocre games riddled with flaws. Hell i don't feel comfortable calling Heavenly Sword anything but the worst current gen action game released. Runs at below 20 fps at points. Has boring combat that lacks depth. Has story that feels like its trying to force you to take it seriously. Uses the motion controls for gimmicky sections of the game.

If this was the same game with a new title it would be obscure as hell. Seriously i don't understand why capcom didn't suck up their pride or w.e and go ask Platinum games to do it. Probably the best and most well known standing action game developer. But instead they ran to a company they praise for "making good story" which is a blatant lie.

In short bravo capcom. We could have had another great DMC game but instead they settle on a game that most likely will end up playable and not as bad as DMC2 but still lacking in many ways. Such as lack of styles, limit on styling compared to 3/4 and a unlikable character.

Unlike able is subjective, dude. I like him better

But that cracks me up that you guys all WANT that arbitrary style system when instead the game puts a broad wealth of tools in your hands at any given time, thus giving you more freedom

Style switching was a joke. I'm not at all sad the see it go

Funny part being, as much as people are saying "this isn't dmc", if it was original work everyone would be calling it "another dmc clone".

I do agree that this could easily be forgotten if it was under a different title, and even make it seem more tacky, somehow.

As the other poster said, it'd just be labeled as a DMC clone, and blasted at how much better DMC3 is, and how it's clearly trying to be more stylish than DMC etc etc etc.

There is something about slapping a strong, well established title to something, that actually works. Like they did with that FF: Spirits Within movie. It does work.

I dont think they have anything to worry about. But if this had been their own game, with their own title, I can say with confidence that it wouldn't be as well received. Which I guess is a shame really.

Even games like Bayonetta are great. But if it had been a DMC title, you just know it would've been received just that lil bit better.

there was an interesting comment on YouTube i saw recently, it was something along the lines of "this is Ninja Theory's best game to date. unfortunately, this also makes it the worst DMC game."

Even games like Bayonetta are great. But if it had been a DMC title, you just know it would've been received just that lil bit better.

In the case of Bayonetta, that one already had it's acclaim from the fact that Kamiya was behind it which, you could say, was even better than simply using the DMC name.

Course that information was only relevant to people in the know, which I can only assume is a small number of the gaming body comparatively.

    Otherwise, I agree with you.

This could be applied to almost any franchise in any medium. Star Wars, The Hobbit, Transformers. People continue to buy and praise new Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica albums on the basis of legacy alone.

Is it logical? Nope. But that's people in bulk.
  • Dec 9, 2012 10:13 pm GMT
    How is it not logical?

If you've enjoyed works by a specific creator or series, would you not be inclined to investigate new work related to it?

What isn't logical is that often a blind following prevails even when something has fallen or failed to deliver as it once had, etc etc.

We're saying the same thing. But I'll expand:

Fans of a certain band or motion picture franchise, in bulk, will spend money and close off objective criticism of any faults regarding to newly-released installments of movies or album catalogues, irrespective of stark drops in quality (when compared to prior releases), based on name alone.

We're not talking about a classic franchise followed by a potentially classic follow up; but a classic, followed by crap, but being praised anyway on the back of previous works, where, if no franchise name were attached, would likely be panned as the lacklustre piece it is. Happens all the time. And it is emotional, rather than logical.

People form silly emotional connections to bands, music genres, games and movie franchises.

I'll give you an example. Classic and Hard Rock music. You'll always hear the complaint that "no one makes music like that anymore" and "modern music is crap". These people will call old rock albums legendary, and listen to them all the time. They'll read and anticipate crappier and crappier modern releases from their once classic bands. But if a new band emerges, playing similarly and even better than the modern crap their favourite band is currently churning out, in the exact same genre, they'll reject it. Completely forgetting the "no one plays like this anymore" complaint.

Same with movies and games, but in a different context.

Yeah definitely. Seems I just read your post as literally as could be.

    We agree.

    Deny.

And your reasoning is? oh right you have none because you just want to say deny for the sake of it.

IT's a no brainer. Same with Enslaved. That game is unheard of now.

I acknowledge the fact that you are entitled to your opinion sir, but if you just called "The Final Frontier" crap, I'm going to have to ask you to step outside.

no one can really confirm or deny because it's a crapshoot. games like god of war and bayonetta are DMC knock-offs yet were able to go on and become successful while others could not. could this game have become a success as just another knock-off? maybe, maybe not. since it is in fact a DMC game, we will never know.

While I don't neccessarily agree with your opinion, I do think using Platinum games would have been awesome, though I'm not sure if better. Vanquish was amazing

Haha. I love Maiden, and gave them two chances since the goodness of Dance of Death. Here's what The Final Frontier should've sounded like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV2YSgq2LSQ

But opinions, man. They have a new audience.
  • Dec 11, 2012 7:52 pm GMT
Perhaps that's what it should have sounded like if it were recorded 15 years ago. But this album represents an older, slower, and perhaps deeper Iron Maiden than what we have heard in years and decades past.

That being said, what you showed me, I must say, I've never heard before......except in every classic Maiden album. I will seek out this "SteelWing" like Indiana Jones sought the Holy Grail.

I thank you my friend StarGoy, for showing me the next leg of my journey to pursuing the most basic, powerful, and perhaps most primal force in the universe. The force of METAL!!!!

STEELWING is badass. takes me back to the days of carmageddon 2, and their song headhunter was a fitting find since I'm playing manhunt as I type this. \m/
