Best rhythmic experience on the PSP thus far.

User Rating: 9 | DJ Max Fever PSP
I have not played any of the Korean versions of DJ Max Portable, so I can only base this review on the American version that was released early this year.

For those of you who don't know what the gameplay is like, it's basically hitting notes when it reaches the bottom of the screen, while going with the rhythm of the song. There are choices of 4, 5 or 6 different buttons, with increasing difficulty. The controls are customizable, meaning if the default button positions are awkward for you, you can change it.

The game interface is very good looking, with music videos playing in the background for every single song. However, looking at the videos is very distracting, yet if you don't, having them there is kind of wasteful. Thankfully, there are modes in the game where you can simply listen to the songs or watch the music videos.

The selection of music in my opinion is not bad. There are a lot of genres, and with a few Korean Pop here and there. For most of the songs, it's pretty fun to press buttons to the rhythm.

As for the difficulty, it wasn't too bad. I'm an avid player of Beatmania IIDX, and compared with that, this game is relatively simple and much more forgiving. As long as you hit a button at the right time, (doesn't have to be the right one) you still get a portion of the score for that one note, and the combo continues.

Overall, one of the better games I have played on the PSP, and if you are a rhythm junkie, it's definitely worth checking out.
