Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity are both ashamed I'm sure.

I tried to love that game, believe me I tried.

Graphics

Let's start with the best about it. Polygonal architecture of buildings is amazing. First time I see so much details in the physical architecture of building in a game. Pretty much every 3d models in this game have a great polygonal architecture, but the buildings really stand out. Kudos to the team that worked on this. Caves and crystals also look pretty good, pretty snappy on the eyes. The bad? Aliasing in this game is beyond horrible, even at 1080p, it's unbearable. Does it have to do with the high polygon count? Maybe. Had the Anti-aliasing option in the setting menu since Ego Draconis, didn't work back then, still didn't work in The Dragon Saga, at least on ATI cards. What's the point of putting the option if you don't plan on incorporating it anytime soon, if never? Performances are great, but having no AA helps the frame rate, while hurting the eyes, pretty BAD!

Sound

Music would not be bad, nor be great, if it wasn't always the same damn tunes playing over and over and over again. After 15 hours, it starts to suck pretty bad. Sound effects? Subpar.

Mechanics/Features

The skills trees are not bad for an action RPG, but it's not particularly great either. There's really no intellectual challenge going on into putting your skill points. Want that? Go play Diablo 2 and Titan Quest. A nice selection of items....Oh wait, I must still wear a full plate armor even if I wanna play a full Mage, or a full Rogue character? So either ways I still look like a Warrior? Wait, no staffs? Sorry, POOR selection of items, unless you want to play a Warrior.

Gameplay

Besides that, hack & slash, hack & slash, hack & slash. Hacking & slashing is great when you actually wait for a great nice rare item matching your character to drop, or wait to level so you can further test what your character build can achieve in combat with your smart point placing. In this game, it's just a pain. Story is not bad though. Ever noticed I don't have a story score category like most reviews? Because for me the story is just the icing on the cake. A great story can make a good game amazing. But a bad game with the best story on earth is still a bad game. Story is very important in a movie or a novel. In a game, it is, but it's just icing.

You know, sometimes I feel like the shift from 2d to 3d in RPGs for some developers is just a bad thing. There's some good 3d RPGs out there, but the majority of good ones are 2d, or at least in isometric perspective. Just my opinion? Maybe. But who can argue Divine Divinity/Beyond Divinity, Diablo 2, Titan Quest, Fallout 1 & 2, BG 1 & 2 and NWN 1 & 2 are still the best RPGs ever made? And I don't see any "good looking", high technology, fully 3d RPG aka Dragon Age, dethroning those games anytime soon.
